Pen & Pencil

I can only imagine the amount of engineering that went into all those bikes and the draftsman’s that actually drew plans for them. No computer/autocad program for them.

Well, the garage has been quiet for awhile, as it seemed more interesting to work on my bike under a tree in Armenia, along the road in Turkey, & as I was crossing the border into Iraq!

Now that I'm back in Bulgaria, let the hunting resume!

My friend knew I wanted an Ural/Dnepr, and told me about this one.
Left over from the BG army, with only 120km on the odometer.
Someone looks to have had trike dreams for it, as the back end was a little altered, but nothing a grinder wont fix. Its a 650 Dnepr, made in Kiev.

So my friend Slavi & I borrow a trailer & go to look at it.

theres the bike, 20 foot off the ground, where it had been for at least 5 years.

grab the forklift, & down it comes....

sidecar was under a tarp behind the building.

the other parts, hmmm... some where on this shelf, some on that shelf, some in that pile, oh, and some are at my other shop....
you know how THAT goes

so we found everything we could, only stuff we couldnt find was swingarm, rear wheel, 1/2 the exhaust & some brake stuff, but I've got most of that found already. Lets make a deal!

200 bucks later, we were all loaded & headed home....

Slavi is on the right, & Oleg, the seller, on the left.

Maybe I'll get it going before I head back to the US.....

Doug

These are the guys we all need to stay friends/in contact with, as they will pretty much ensure that we all end up as nutty as they are when we reach their age. Our advantage is we may end up with some of their cool toys when we get to their age. Whether that makes us nuttier than they or just plain weird I have yet to figure out yet. Either way I would love to be able to work on/ride the stash they have and still stay sane. It is every Old School inmates dream.

Just ran across this thread. The Drifters are retro-cool bikes: even the ones with too much chrome (2002 model here).

Last year at Barbers I picked up a new mikuni carb for my 57 Cushman, the old tillotson was just worn out. Of course as usual, it took me over a year to get around to putting it on, so last nite, thats what I did. Was pretty easy, except you have to change out the internal twist in the throttle to make it pull instead of push.

I put about 25 miles on it today, sure runs alot better, and it even idles now!

Today I decided to mess with the /2
I like it alot, but hate the seat. Im too tall for it, & end up sitting on the hump in the middle, so I wanted to put a solo seat on it, & remove the bags & rack, as I found a sidecar for it, so I will have enough storage space, and it'll look alot cleaner

before.....

so I went thru my collection of solo seats. the stock pagusa I had looked good, but was 1/3 under the back of the big tank.

so I used a harley seat t-bar from a knucklehead which moved it back another 1.5" or so, looks much better now
