With a steel tank tho, I can mount one of them old triumph parcel grids on the tank, which would look pretty good.

How close would the old Sporty "turtle" tank come to fitting? Seems to me they were around 5 gallons.

This should work.
I have the other style IMS without the built in shrouds. The other day I ran deep into reserve and put 6.8 gallons in on fill-up.
I don't know what the above style with the shrouds holds but it looks larger.
It may cover too much of the V-twin to fit the style parade though.
I run the Wolfman Explorer tankbag on mine. It doesn't move around but it's not water proof at all. Keep the raincover handy or go for the zipperless model made of dry bag material.

Have you considered having a stock tank or slightly larger aftermarket tank widened so it would hold more, but retain the classic sportster peanut tank look? That would be pretty cool. What does the stock tank hold, 3.3 gallons? Sell the pristine one that came off the bike, and buy a dented one to hack up and expand.

stock is 2.5 or so. I can get a 3.2 steel aftermarket, but really want something bigger

the red bodywork on that ironhead looks SO out of place. it doesnt fit right as all.
Looks like an XR600 is trying to rape a sporty.

I want it to sorta look right. well, as right aas a sporty dirtbike CAN look.....

Perhaps an AUX tank on the back made out of a pony keg.

I guess y'all dont get it. I want it to look like an enduro, not something a clown would ride down mainstreet at bikeweek.

Not that it wont END UP looking like that, but its not my plan......

theres plenty of ways to carry extra gas. If I cant find a tank big enough, then I'll look into other options.

Hey Doug, you should keep an eye out for a TA Knucklehead.
Shaft drive, plenty of room for fuel, gear, etc
I think it would suit your riding style.
You could mount a M60 to the front for those Mongolian cluster F%@ks who
ask " WHAT BIKE NUMBER???"

Those things are cool. I don't know about taking one down the road of bones, but I knew a guy who had one when I lived in Germany. His name was Sepp an he ran the Imbiss on Bad Aibling station. I think he was going to use it for his business somehow, but it was cool.

Im guessing y'all havent done many offroad miles on a rigid? with springer? and foot clutch?

it sucks. trust me.

Im really tired of....
'gee, I wonder where that trail goes? its a shame my chopper will beat the teetotal shit out of me if I take it, and probably get stuck 50 times.....'

Im becoming a pussy. fuck it. I'm tired of limitations.

(I do however have a 42 Knuckle, and plan on doing a WW2 trip thru Europe on it, once I restore it to original, but not this year)

Well dang, Doug. I think I'll miss that retarded sense of adventure you've been showing us these past few years. No more rigid from dual sporting from our favorite globe trotter? What's the world coming to?
