Something a little different

A Moto Morini Camel. This is the bike that got me into off-pavement adventure type riding. I'm always reminded of some dialogue in the movie "Silence Of The Lambs" when I think about this bike: "We begin by coveting what we see".

For many years I'd been hanging out at an old time motorcycle shop owned by a person who became a friend when I bought a MG LeMans from him (that story is coming ). He had an immaculate red/white Camel on his floor all the time that he sold new- it had less than 1,000 miles on it despite being over 12 years old when I first saw it. The bike was owned by a person who was an avid fisherman and a pilot. Every year he would fly the state to find out where the new lakes were, and then truck the bike to the nearest road and use it to ride back to where the fish were. Russ, the shop owner, was a MM dealer when they were in business, and had a real respect for the brand.

Well, after looking at the bike for a number of years I began to covet. Then I saw one come up for sale in Brooklyn. Turns out that guy was something of a collector (among other things, he had one of those Sportster-based Italian cafe racers). It further turns out that he was coveting a CB900F; one of which I happened to have (and liked a lot-- I bought it new, and had it for 18 years). Anyway, after soem talking, we did the deal.

The Camel was/is one of those bikes whose total is greater than the sum of the parts (or spec sheet) would indicate. An amazingly good handler on pavement and pretty capable off pavement. I thoroughly enjoyed it: but two things drove me to sell it: 1) a hybrid 6/12 volt electrical system meant I couldn't run electrics and 2) it was kick-start only; and though always a 1-2 kick starter when upright, it was a real bitch to start if it fell over on the trail. And I was on the side more than a few times

I sold the bike to a friend; who in turn sold it to a mutual friend; who in turn sold it to an Advrider- who I spoke to earlier this year. So it sorta stayed in the family. I hope he reads this and posts some pictures of his own.

Nope they have a wonderful transverse 4, MV's current signature engine.

Sounds very moto GP-like. IMHO

That thing is gorgeous...I've got a new one on my "to buy" list thanks to you.

I won't bore you with pics of the regular Guzzis.....
We have two Nevadas, a baby Breva, V7 Classic, Cali EV and a V11 EV.

But this is the newest addition to the Guzzi family:

1967 125cc Stornello Scrambler. With less than 600 miles on the odo. Bought it from the son of the original owner. Picked her up in Colorado two weeks ago. Dang thing fit just perfect inside the Elemental. I'm actually looking forward to winter as I will have time to take her apart and get her running.

Heres my latest obsession.

I unintentionally flung it down the road on its side a few weeks ago (cold tires) so now its in my shop awaiting some goodies. Desmo Challenge Tail section, Quat D Exbox, Custom Paint, and other tasty bits. It will be a totally different bike come spring...

I picked this up two weeks ago. It's a zero mile left over 2008 Husqvarna SM 610 and it's a friggen blast to ride.
