990 ADV Kickstand Foot Mod

The stock kickstand foot just won't work for me & my offroad travels, so I decided to do a quick upgrade to the foot.

I stopped by Fastenal and picked up a large, thick washer to weld to the kickstand foot-

The before -

After some crummy welding with my hobby welder & some grinding - (I need to get a better welder!)

I welded the bottom as well -

I painted the stand with some satin black enamel spray paint. Looks good to me -

Washer - $1.50
Time - 40 minutes
Peace of mind - PRICELESS

Are you welding with a wire feeder? Looks like you're using wire that needs gas....

Good idea, I think I'll copy it ;)

Might be ugly, but I'd bet my right nut that the washer will stay on that stand forever

Yeah, the worse thing that happens is it falls off & then I have to redo it. Hopefully the weight won't be an issue in rough terrain-

I did the same and no problems so far in +- 50.000 kms so don't worry about it

The bigger the blob, the better the job.

I did this to mine a couple years ago. Best cheap mod ever. I also extended my kickstand a bit too as it seemed to lean over too much.

Fwiw, I have the CJDesigns side stand relocator too and with the washer I think the bike is just s touch too upright sometimes. I'm very temped to cut 1/2" out of my stand to get a touch more lean out of it.

Actually on that same trip I rode my KLR650 for a few days and it leans WAY over compared to the KTM. I was amazing him much differnce there is between the tow lean angles on the side stand.
