Sabres have gobs of low and mid range torque and incredible top end. She pulls hard PAST her 10K redline and has extremely long legged gearing. 6 spd, liquid cooled and if you could reach redline in top gear, you would be pushing 180mph. That will NOT happen on this bike, but just to give you the idea of how long legged she is.
The Sabre AND the XR both have tall seats. The Corbin brought down the height on the Sabre a few inches but it doesn't matter to me as I have a
nice sabre indeed
6 speed
and a lot of power...mmm
but that thing doesn't look 127 k ..miles???
it looks 12K miles
I think it would be great to upgrade the frontend with a newer generation inverted fork....
the original looks skinny
what about valve adjustments?
Your honda xr 650l is nice too

My dad bought it new and used it to commute to work on. It sat with ~10K on the clock from '88 until I got it running again in college, around '99. I learned to ride on it then, went back and forth to class on it. It sat again for a while, but I have it going again and just need to rejet it, put some new rubber on it, and get the title so I can tag it. I recently added the MAC exhaust and the dirt track bars.
There is a dent in the tank (not really visible in the picture) from the first time I dropped a bike...I was a kid, about 10 I think, jumping on the kickstarter and it fell on me It would be easy to pop out, but I'm going to leave it for now.

1970 Norton Commando 750.

My father's daily ride. Bought in 1971.

Me sitting on it and looking dork-ish.

I really, really think it would look better with a round headlight. Yes? No?

Goddamn I need to lose weight.

LMJ, You do not look dorkish.
Let me show you dorkish. This was right before I broke through the ice.

Round headlight? Big deal.

You need to get the fork seal fixed.

Gotta get the the forks re-chromed first, or the seals will just get torn right back up.

You should see the dry rot on the front tire. It's at least 15 years old.

Yes, his life insurance is paid up.

Anybody sitting on a Norton Commando has real class in my book.

The Commando is a bike that has that "soul", alot of people talk about on this forum.

If the tubes aren't too rusty and pitted, try filling the pits with silver solder. Of course, handle any rough edges.

Don't change the appearance though, or you'll lose the patina.

when I was about 6 or 8, there was guy up the street that was constantly trying to kickstart one.

I heard it run maybe twice. Loud. RRAAOOOOOWWRRRR.

Romantic, despite all the kicking.
