Yep, took a test drive the other day. I like it. I currently own a 2005 TSX so I have a relative point for comparison since it's in the same line. There are paddle shifters in addition to the standard auto on the center console - no manual transmission is offered. Handling was not bad - not a sports car, but not a lumbering SUV either (not anywhere near close to Mini Clubman but it can carry a lot more). It's typically Acura - good fit and finish, solid engine and will probably continue to run great well after you are tired of it.

I'm beyond annoyed that you can't get the TSX wagon with a stick.

While in Europe, where it is the Honda Accord Tourer, they're available with a wider range of powertrain options: 2.0 and 2.4l gas, and 2.2l diesel, all with choice of 5 speed auto or 6 speed manual.

Also the star of the best auto ad evah.

I don't even know why they are bothering to sell it. VW already proved that the market for a $31k four-cylinder station wagon is hopelessly small, and the VW had the benefit of actually being fast. The TSX can't even claim that.

What, you don't think it is wise to fight over the scraps that are left after the Volvo V50, Subaru Outback, and Audi A4 are sold?

BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Saab have always offered true station wagons... I think this could be a great option for upmarket buyers tired of high operating/maint/repair costs...

Maybe it's Honda's way of dipping a baby toe back into the wagon market so they can say wagon's aren't popular enough.

I think it's more a matter of the wagon market recovering a bit as folks distance themselves from SUV's and want better MPG.

It's not that big a deal for Honda to earmark a vehicle already in production, then hang some bells and whistles and charge Acura-level pricing. I'm sur ethey don't advertise it's a Honda Accord in Europe.

Neither are fast, both with 200hp and 0-60 in the mid 7's .

Yeah this one has a turbo and other performance upgrades, it's called a JCW (John Cooper Works), kind of the like the M upgrades on BMWs ie different heads, larger brakes, more power, stiffer suspension etc. This one has about 210 hp. The "S" (also turbo charged) has about 180 and the standard (non-S) is normally aspirated and has I think 120. The Clubman is not available w 4wd (yet), but Mini just introduced an SUV -type vehicle called the Countryman and it can be had w 4wd. There is a rumour that next year a 4wd Clubbie may be available.

Didn't get a very warm welcome in the car mags...

...and it costs 40k

I'm curious to see where it goes...

Seems they could steal a AWD system from BMW for the regular Minis as everyone seems to think AWD is a 'must-have' these days..

I agree! A Cooper with rear-biased 4wd and oh say.....250 HP would be a fun ride! I've heard that VW is releasing a new R-series Golf GTI with a configuration similar to that (ie 4wd, 250 hp...).

So, a Mini is a station wagon, but an Impreza Wagon is not?

What do you carry - miniature ladders? Birthday cakes? Your spare tire?

Wow, 33K for a GTI!

It can't be 28K more refined than my old '83 GTI.
