I almost bought one of these, owner backed out just before excepting payment. Looked nothing like this it was a field car but well worth restoration.

just got a wrx wagon

Been looking for an avant, a bmw wagon, or wrx wagon, any with stick. Finally after almost giving up, a 2005 wrx wagon showed up on autotrader at a local dealer. 70k miles, silver, with aftermarket wheels and summer tires, and factory wheels with winter tires. Test drove it that night, and went back the next day to sign the papers. 14k out the door, very clean car. Turbo awd is such fun, just wish the gas mileage were better.

I haven't read the whole thread but Rob from UUC (who lives up the block from me) built this 1994 M5 Touring 3.8l 380hp 6 speed http://www.robertlevinson.com/M5_Touring/ His bike ain't 1/2 bad either - http://www.robertlevinson.com/Project_C/ I think this is what happens when you have access to too many BMW parts. He has posted on ADV a few times too.

I would love to go back in time and buy this from Bring a Trailer (http://bringatrailer.com/2010/12/04/...w-525it-wagon/)

We used to get the M5 Touring from the factory over here in Europe

You're right, I misread the posts in the context of A-Bone's TDI pics and the Golf TDI at the top of the page. It should have hit me that you were discussing Steptronic, not Tiptronic. Sorry, carry on..

On that note, earlier this year there was a local Volvo LS1 wagon on Craig's for about $5k. Looked worth it to me.

Cool wagon, I'd love to find one of those.

The Teutonic Dodge Magnum... utterly useless as a station wagon. Uber cool Q ship though.

It's done all the time. For CA though, it would have to be checked by a referee station and then a new VIN assigned to it. It would also have to be newer then the chassis it's going into and retain all the emissions of the new engine. For states that don't have VIN checks it would be a lot easier.
