Sorry I couldn't make it last week. I look forward to seeing it on DVD soon.

I was thinking about our next ride and wondering about Uwharrie. Only $5 to ride all day or you can get an annual pass for cheap. Plus it is fairly close to my house. Unfortunately, I think they close over the winter, so i called to check. They are closing on Monday Dec 16th. Probably not open until late March.

Well...maybe. I can't get there until 1pm, so that gives about 4 hrs until dark. Probably a little less after we stop at the outpost to get our pass and trail map. Would anyone else be interested?

Hey guys. Meeting this coming Thursday, right?

If anybody gets a lead on a sweet deal on a LARGE dual sport, let me know. Thinking DR/DRZ/KLR. Common and Japanese. Gonna do a section of the TAT this summer and I'm not big on taking the FJR.

Doing the TAT on your FJR would make for a better Ride Report.

I plan to be at Hawthorne's on Thursday evening.

Evan -

I know someone who's been playing with the idea of selling a nicely setup, lightly used DR650. Its just been sitting in the garage and hasn't been getting much love lately since its new stable mate showed up.....

I've been looking, too. But right now I have no room for a 12th bike in the garage/trailer/living room. (To be fair, only 8 of them are mine. 2 tenants have 3 bikes.)

Honestly, if I could sell my Virago 250, the Yamaha Chopper, and the Yamaha parts bike, I'd probably be in the market for a Dual sport - but I also have this crazy idea of building a Sportster with a full fairing...

And there was also some spy shots released of a KTM 390 Supermoto that may come out in 2015... I need a bigger garage.

I might be there, it depends on when we head back to Knoxville.

Evan what sections you plan on running? If you're doing TN/MS/AR let me know. The TAT runs right through my hometown and it can show you some cool offroad sections. I'm going to ride some of it this summer.

Leaving from here, gonna try the route from GPSKevin that begins in Troutman and head as far west as we can get in 5-7 days. Likely just to AR. Interestingly, a friend planning it has a truck/trailer that will be picking us up from wherever we end up. We won't have to slab it home. How's that for luxury?

Yea, I'm still floating around. Been a pretty busy six months or so with not much free time for riding. When I do manage to find some time the big girl has been getting all my attention and the DR only gets a token spin to the end of the block every now and then.

I really need to ride it or sell it but I honestly haven't had the time to do either. My New Years resolution is to get one of those two done!

Carolina Sandhills

Had a very nice day riding with Augie down in the Sandhills area south of Chesterfield, SC. Figured it would be a bit cold up in the mountains today so we decided to head south and check out the roads inside of the Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge.

By the end of the day we had ridden on hard pack sand, loose sand, wet sand, grass covered sand, gravel, dirt, mud and ruts. At one point, we even took a little detour through the woods where no trail existed, over a mound and across a ditch. (Riding in the woods sans trail and through ditches on a V-Strom with luggage is exciting.) Would have been even more fun on a light dual sport, but Augie’s KLR and my V-Strom handled it all just fine. My new Michelin Anakee IIIs performed admirably and the tread did not fill up with mud or wet sand.

Here are a few photos:

We tried to eat a late lunch at Carolina Restaurant & Steak House in Chesterfield – I have heard the food is very good there – but they close early on Sundays and we were too late. Chinese food was the substitute and it was tasty.

Augie: Thanks for using your GPS to improvise once we started running into closed gates. That was fun!
