Well since the last post went over so well lets see what the critics have to say about this project I completed last July.

I needed to build a bridge on a budget. Span was 43' over a small valley. Using an old mobile home frame, the remnants of an old burned down building, and a little new lumber I managed to construct a bridge 4' wide and 51' long.

So a mobile home frame was found for $325 and only 120 miles away.

So this thing was WIDE! Too wide for the intent of building a bridge so I cut it down the middle, moved it back in together and welded it up.

After welding I added a coat of Rustoleum red paint and moved it over the valley with the help of a skidsteer and a jeep with a winch.

I managed to salvage a lot of 2x8's from a building that burned down and removed all of the nails for re-use.

After some cutting and a few baseboards the old 2x8's were being laid out as a new bridge deck. There was a need for extra support so two trestles were built with 4x6's.

After this picture handrails were added for safety. The bridge is designed for walking and biking.

Love it! Keep posting. These are exactly the kind of cheap/creative solutions to problems that I was just posting about in another thread.

Found my other pictures of the bridge

Looking down from the steel bridge on the wooden bridge below.

A good look at the span

Putting the hand rails up

While I was building the steel bridge my friends were building a nice DH trail and I had to help build this landing. Most of my involvement on this was hauling the lumber and tools up the mountain. Inevitably I ended up putting a few screws in myself.

Heap Big Thanks for posting up.

Hope you don't mind, but I'd like to use this idea the next time I teach Auto Mechanics Merit Badge for Tiny D's Boy Scout Troop.
