Thanks, It's a fun avocation that scratches the creative itch. I like leaning new things, and there is a lot to learn in this discipline.

That honey comb soldering pad seems to hold just the right amount of heat and doesn't absorb to much to make the process difficult.

I had a 6' piece of a channel and some other scrap metal. My friend donated a few feet of heavy wall 2" square tubing. So I decided to build me a bike carrier. Total cost = $1.35 for one bolt and a nut

Test fit:

All welded:

Final touch:

I'll show you something my 27 year old son made.

Just before Christmas my son woke up crying. Not just weeping but racked sobbing. He dreamed his cousin Rachael (25) had died. She was in fact in ICU with bilateral chest tubes on 100% NRB with O2 sats in the 50's. Her cancer has nearly run it's course and I didn't think she was going to make it home one more time.

She did but time is what time is and never enough of it.

Today my Autistic son said kind of matter of factly, "Her battery is running down, isn't?"

To some who don't understand that an Autistic mind thinks heavily in pictures, this would have sounded odd at best.

But aren't all our batteries running down?

He made this bracelet for her in Social Group. I thought, 'why didn't he spell her name?' and thought he had just stuck a bunch of things on a string that were shiny.

Today I found him writing something while flipping through the baubles.

I was wrong, very wrong and even I was caught off guard with the depth of what he meant by stringing those random letters together.

There is beauty and sadness in that.

In case it was not legible, N is for noble.

That touched me the most.

I didn't know he knew how stoic and proud and NEVER complaining she has been these last few years.

I think maybe the autistic are more in touch with things than the kids who arent burdened with it.

That and kindred spirit got me. I've been reading a lot more about autistic and downs syndrom people lately. Not on purpose but I've been running across articles. It seems the comunication is the barrier for a lot of them. There's a lot they understand and know about but can't express. But once that barrier is crossed, the river runs deep.

Sorry about Rachel.

I do a lot of charity work for a local autism foundation, and this is powerful stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Truly great! Your son is powerful.

Here is tonights dinner, 16oz. Rib eye and some grilled onions. Cooked on a rocket stove I made last week. made out of 1/4" plate 12"x18" with a 4"x6" feed. gets up to 600* real fast and hardly uses any wood.
