Oregon to Costa Rica or the "Who can jump a dual sport furthest" ride
As of June of 2009 I will have worked at the same job for seven years!! Holy shit seven years. I have never done anything for seven continuous years before except breath. Anyway at the seven year mark as a token of their appreciation my employer allows me to take ten weeks off to do what ever the frack I what. So what do I wanna do? Well get the hell outta the US of A down south where the dollar goes further and the tequila is cheaper. The plan is to sell off a couple of bikes (already done) and use the money to buy a Suzuki DR. Then I am going to kit her out for long haul travel and come November 25th point that biotch south and see how much trouble I can get into...... and back out of.
![]() This is the DR with an early mock up fairing I am working on.

Sounds Exciting
It sounds like you're geared up for an amazing experience. I'll be following your exploits. I've got a buddy that lives in Portland who has family in CR. I know he'll be excited to see how your trip goes as well. We are going on a trip next summer to Mexico and Guatemala. The original idea was to get as far as CR, but we decided there was not enough time. I'll be interested to see how the prep goes.!

I read that, and thought, "you mean there's another guy in my area who has family in CR and is on this list? AND is taking a trip to Mexico / Guate next summer???" Then it hit me...oh, that's me! I've gotta mind like a steel trap! Sounds like a wonderful plan you have there. Will be following along. I have driven a car to CR from Portland, and my klr half way down the coast of Mexico and back. And I've lived in CR for more than three years, so if you want to chat some time--ping me. |

Cast of Characters
First there is Jeff AKA Dirt the fastest man on 160cc's the world has ever known!
![]() ![]() Not too bad on 650cc either. ![]() He has also been know to jump mini bikes through fires. ![]() Suck the life outta coconuts... Broke his thumb a few weeks ago crash testing safety gear on a skateboard. ![]() And all around nice guy. ![]() Jeff will be riding a 95 XR400 with Dirtbagz, a Scotts stabilizer, over sized tank, and a Acme Vibration dampening suit. Wait that last thing does not exist but I am pretty sure he is gonna wish it did :) On our shakedown run Jeff managed to crack his frame. John got out his welder and his grinder and like Gaspipe always does put a little Mexicanada into it ![]() So of course that brings us to Johnny. He Dances... ![]() Makes Funny faces... ![]() Is a snappy dresser. ![]() Can go fast on anything.... ![]() And of course is eager to make friends here on ADV... ![]() John will be on his 05 KLR with the Ricor shock and Intiminators for the forks, soft bags, the standard KLR mods and otherwise pretty damn stock. Lastly there is me Berkeley AKA El Moto Loco ![]() I will be on my 05 DR650 with suspension by Rick at Cogent you can find him at www.motocd.com. A corbin seat I bought from Pumkinhead, The FCR carb mod and GXXR pipe as perfected by MXRob from thumpertalk, a custom fairing by my good friend and Lemons racing buddy Brett at http://caferacingparts.com/, and the Buell headlight mod I found in the DR forum here. I also have a safari 9 gallon tank, Happy Trails luggage and skid plate, Bark Busters, and will be running Meefo explorers. ![]() We leave on the 25th so just a few days to go. We of course are deep in the throes of mad prep but I will try and get some pics and logs up of what's going down as we get ready to go. Lastly if anyone has space or knows of someone with space to park a van for 9 weeks somewhere within a hundred miles of Tecate MX we of course have left that bit o planning till the last minute and are hoping the ADVrider collective can bail us out. Te vaya bien! Loco
