I'm a newb to ADV but a couple of people have sold me it. I'm in to 'buy the ticket, take the ride' and am shopping around for bikes.

So I see this one on craigslist - http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/mcy/4421230051.html

And I'd like to make an offer but it's been laid down.

It's got a cracked fairing and other plastic but in my mind that's not a problem because I want to replace the fairing, upgrade to a larger gas tank and strip it down as much as possible.

And what would be a fair price to offer?

If the seller did have the title in his/her name, then a trip together the DMV would be the ticket to get a replacement title. If the seller is not the person on the title -- then you need to track down that person and the DMV would not give you the name.

$4500 seems high to me with all that cracked plastic, plus torn seat... that stuff is expensive, even if you plan on "stripping it down" the price should be lower. At least $500-800 lower. If you have your heart set on it I would start with something around $3600 and see what happens.

Compared to this for example:

That KTM has been on CL forever. The guy thinks it is a museum piece.

He's getting closer though. I think it was like $10,000 last time.

It's a great story. Next time I see you I'll have to share

I'd like to hear it, and there is more to my story, those were just the cliff notes

I'm thinking there is more to this story too.......................and what your Dad said reminds me of what G-dog once told me:

When I was 18, I told the old man I wanted a bike. He said not while I live at home. 1 weeks later I moved out. 2 weeks later he had my room turned in to his den. 3 weeks later I had a bike.

Later I figured that he wanted me gone and it was nothing about a bike.

All's well that ends well.
