IMO, it simply fits the stereotype of the SCRAMBLER, full stop !
For such reason, it could be the WINNER in this category

Do you all agree ?

Yup......

I'd certainly throw in a vote for it as the "Best Looking" (my original post listed the '68 Yamaha DT250 as the Best looking dirt bike with this bike as second) as I always thought that the Gold Star was really considered a converted road bike, but if we're going to call it a true scrambler/dirt bike, it's the winner by far........well to me, anyway....that sure is a purdy motor scooter.

you know... i got influenced by some friends...

joking apart, i wrote "it could" not "it is"... hence, let's see what the Folk think about..

For the SCRAMBLER Category my current personal selection is:

1st - Triumph Scrambler (post #93)
2nd - Ducati (post 134)
3rd - BMW (post #108)

i think the 550 is illegal in the dakar rally, not so sure about other rallys. but all that purdy bodywork would fit up just as fine on a 550 as it does on that there 450...

Like you say, it would be a bit silly building it around the 550 if it was going to be used on the Dakar these days...

But don't worry, it is the 450 version (if you look really closely above the footpeg you can see the badge), also if you download the image (as I did!) it says RXV450Rally...

And it's damn nice!

Unfortunately ... you're right... 450 cc is the "new" limit in the Dakar

This is the '09 Aprilia RXV 450 Rally and, as stated above, it's damn beautiful...
however I still prefer the Cagiva Elefant 750 LE... ;)

Aw, I wouldn't say 'unfortunately'?

The previous version did all right too:

I do wonder how well they will last on a serious long-distance event like the Dakar though...

Lotta good looking old dirtbikes here!
The Husky or Maico gets my vote, but that older era BSA is the bomb.

Hi there,
in reply to 'I do wonder how well they will last on a serious long-distance event like the Dakar though...':
I too think, that's the problem. Riding these long distances, you have to wring the neck of the smaller bikes. The smaller-bikes-rule was introduced to get the speed out of the event. But I don't think, this will work. I'd prefer a bigger bike and rules, that will reward you for taking care of your bike and especially the engine. It shouldn't be allowed to change the whole engine. This is, what makes that rallye so fast: you don't have to care about wear ...
Although I think, that the V-twin Aprilia has better chances as it doesn't vibrate that much and so you don't have to worry so much about split frames, tanks, electrics or engine parts.
And I also think, that some of the best-looking bikes of all times were born in the dakar-rallye. And some of the most crude too ...
Kind regards, Bambi
