Delaware is real good on taxes and currently looks to be pretty good on the laws they govern that I am interested in. I was hoping to get some feed back from riders in Delaware. I have questions like:

Where do you ride and what type of riding is available in DE. I currently ride single track, double track, adventure / street / touring. I live about 5 minutes from Wharton state forest.

How do you feel about the motorcycling environment in the state? Is the state good / bad / or indifferent to motorcyclist's? Can you register converted off-road bikes as street legal?

Basically just looking for info because right now its looking pretty strong that we will be moving to north Delaware somewhere around north Wilmington. I know I am going to have to drive to get to some off road tracks. Possibly even back to NJ but I am hoping there are nice places to ride in DE also.

there are no "great" public schools in DE. Anyone with the financial means will send their children to a private or charter school - or move north.

tuition is temporary, taxes are forever.

HOwever! tuition is probably somewhere betwen 8k and 20k depending on what circles you keep.

So the first kid might be a wash, but the second is cheaper to move to PA.

Avon grove is good, unionville chadds ford is excellent.

The paved roads are way better in PA. Riding the canal is lame, and if you are having fun, you are probably breaking the law.

edit: PA DMV laws are just stupid.. but you get used to things taking forever. Probably the biggest 'motorcycle' centric plus to DE is the DMV.

Thumbs down Post-ride wrenching

Camp Cow Crap 3 was the awesomest - three days of great dual sport riding. And I made it through without any injuries! Alas, the same cannot be said for the intrepid beast. She also survived without major injury. This evening I spent some time putting her back into riding condition.
First order of business was to replace the subframe bolt. Although I think this fix would have lasted for quite some time:

Next was to re-attach the radiator cover. Both bolts had vanished mysteriously:

Thanks for pointing this out to me Eddie Bolted! I had not noticed.
....I have switched from the removable loktite to high strength.

Eddie also noticed that my speedometer cable was not properly installed, so I fixed that:

Thanks again Eddie!

Next up: cockeyed pannier syndrome - a recurring illness.

I removed the boxes (Muffin Tops) and mounts (Dirt Racks), and with a little help from a rubber mallet, a really big hammer, some 80/20 a screw jack from Michelle's Toyota and much wailing and gnashing of teeth, she was looking almost as good as new.

As I was taking her off the jack, I noticed that both footpegs were hanging on by their last few threads - more high strength Loktite and elbow grease snugged them up.

There - now she's ready for another thrashing. My back needs another day or two.....

It sure is nice to have a bike that can take all that abuse and keep on rolling.

I'd like to go.

I know that some of you will prefer a day trip, but another option would be to find a campground close to the track and make it a DDB camping event. Invite our friends from PA, MD, VA?

Any opinions on these schools and there feeders would be appreciated.

Hey Neckrom. Sorry to join the thread a little late. I'm a Realtor in Greenville. (NW of Wilmington) I can help you out with school district info, locations to buy, etc.

As was mentioned, around the C&D canal is the only real off road riding in DE, unless you know someone with a lot of land. That said, once here, you're not far from PA, and there are more riding opportunities there.

PM me for some more local info, and to find out what you might be looking for here.

Seems like the thing to do and lately it looks like there's some fellas that might keep DE chat from hitting page 6 in the NE roundup.
