Gotta go right past the Loco Coyote (LC) to get to Hico and back. Go eat Pie for Bfast and then ride and eat LC for late lunch/early dinner. Lots of good roads in that area. Don't eat the day before or after and you might only gain a couple of pounds.

Sloan, the most direct route for you is North on 183 to Lampasas and then North on 281 to Hico...probably take you about 2 1/2 hours. You can hook up with Ghost and other ADVers and TWTers in Hico for some more interesting farm to market and county roads on your way back home. I would be happy to ride with you, but I am pulling a trailer load of hay on Saturday.

Well, I looked at the maps and played with routes in mapsource. About 2 hours up there if we blast up 183 and 281. Adds about 30 minutes if we head towards Gatesville and then take the most direct route from there. Adds about an hour if we head to Gatesville, then go through Cranfills Gap which looks twistier.

I'm inclined to do the blast up there method so I don't have to get up so early, then decide after lunch whether to wander home or not.

So, I'm going to say, kick stands up by 9am at the shell in Seward Junction, NW corner of the intersection of 183 and 29. Get there early so we can be gassed up and ready to roll at 9am. I'll be there by 8:45am. We'll head up 183 and 281. I'm make sure you meet Ghostrider and SlowOldGuy. And others too.

the guys on the TWT site are giving me grief for wanting to sleep in. They have a valid point about beating the rush at the Koffee Kup, so I'm going to cave in to peer pressure and say meet at 8:15, kickstands up at 8:30am

Hope that works. What I'll do is hang back for stragglers if we split into two groups at the start.

Yep, I'll be there. I'm even teaching a GPS class one of those evenings.

Thought ya might be tired of the KiLleRSo are we riding as a group together SOG

ROAD UPDATES!
Most of the roads in Bosque are still stable and damp which means a dust factor of 2 or less. Some have washes and potholes, but not much loose stuffNO maintainers yet!!!!

CORYELL COUNTY has fucked up there north east roads! CR224 is barely passable with all loose scree....additionally the county brought in some dump truck loads of golfball size crushed rock it is set on loose stuff which makes it all the more unforgivingI nearly shit myself when I flew into it from the Bosque side The crossing on 224 is flowing at about 6 inches...bottom has ...yep u guessed it...been maintained...dust on these roads was high...6+

Yup. I'm in. On my own bike. Hunters on the ranch in the morning so I have to get off the place fairly early. They don't seem to like me buzzing past the stands with the supertrapp at full song.

Edit: So, Ghost and I are leaving from Moshiem Mafia HQ (the intersection) at 8:30 to wander aimlessly for a bit before heading over to Hico. Maybe a breakfast stop along the way since pie and I don't get along for shit.

Edit again: Damn . You are fast.

Final edit: And good word choice, too. That's spooky.

Had a nice little ride to Hico with Ghost. He on his 1150. Me on a f'in mo-ped. The ride back? Well, as the old saw goes "They ain't no replacement for displacement." Jeebus. We really should have stayed on the dirt.

1238 ain't a whole lot of fun on a KLR when you
1) weigh 250
2) have the aerodynamic tuck of a morbidly obese manatee
3) and (to make it just about perfect) are heading into a 20 mph headwind.

By the time I rolled into the Gap, Ghost had plenty o' time to make himself a ham sandwich and was halfway through his second game of 42 with the locals.

My right arm is sore from trying to twist the grip past the stop. And, I'm proud to say....I had to go on reserve 142 miles into the trip. Yup. A little less than 30 mpg. ;)

But I still had a whole lot of fun. Sometimes it's just nice to be out in the sunshine, pedaling along.
