Here's a link to a tire recommendation page for the older KLRs http://www.standoutnet.com/extras/mi.../klr650/tires/ + there's the Shinko 705s that came out recently.Slowoldguy has some on his BigRig & I have a set for future use on the Wee.These woud be similar to the Kenda K761s. I've read good stuff bout em. I forgot to add...another long time Waco dual sporter has Kenda 761s on his 08 KLR & says they're great for pavement sticky + some dirtyness too. Burbo, ya know. My GPS must have had a contact high. But we read the "signs" right and made the right call. All part of the game of dual sport riding in Texas. I enjoyed my day with y'all.

I'm in the northern metroplex but am not shy of commuting a hundred miles or so to meet up with you guys and ride new stuff. The lure of good BBQ would definitely sweeten the deal! We have some good stuff up here too north west of Denton that I have been scouting. That is where Red Leader and I rode this last Sunday. If anyone wants to hang out and ride north texas let me know too! |

Starting to feel a bit better. Good to see the communication maintained to keep us alive. BTW, MR2mch, just pulled a set of shinko's off of a friends KLR. He hated them, put Metzler Enduros 3 on and likes the hell out of em! Wish they made em for my GSA. I am not liking my Anakee2s
Not as sure footed as Tourances. Assend broke loose down shifting from 5th to 4th on wet pavement causing bike to slide out about 3 feet At 300 miles on em I would think I would be shed of any residual release agent

![]() BTW, sorry to hear about the ribs. I recently separated my shoulder which put a crimp in my riding for a bit so I sympathize. Now I'm mostly mended and the bike is down. It's not right!

Ghostrider,
I recently went from the tourance tires to the TKC 80's on the R-12 and I am liking them very much, I have almost 900 miles of pavement on them and I put on about 75 miles of dirt/gravel with Ender on Sunday. Counting Sunday I have experienced a lot of different surface conditions, including fresh gravel, dirt, wet dirt not really mud, and wet and very wet pavement. I've put my confidence in them and they have not disapointed at all. Obviously they are not as suited for the twisties at speed like the tourance but there not that bad either, a little more vibration but to me its worth it when you get off road with the bigger bikes. I was off road with the tourance tires a few months ago and the front end just washed out and put me down "like right now" on some not so deep sand, and just a small patch at that. I hurt a couple ribs that day. Having said all that to say I like em. |

Red Leader, I rode my first GSA with TKCs and loked them but they wear fast as do the MEtzler Karoos. Wish I could have 2 GSs one with Tourance and one with TKCs. Actually have been looking at an older R1100 GS with low miles. Possibly just set it up with TKCS

Mileage, street grip, dirt grip. We are all looking for the perfect tire. I hope someone finds it . IMO, none of competitors have stepped up to bat with a 75 street/25 dirt with decent mileage . Until they do it's "pick your poison" or "what are you willing to give up?"

I am really curious about the Heidenau K60. It seems to have some great wear characteristics and good offroad manners. Seem to be in short supply due to a manufacturer change though. Might ruin it

Well guys I gotta wade in on this new tire thread we got going here. I know Slowoldguy wasn't impressed with the Shinko 705's. However I abused a rear 705 for 3450 miles and would have logged another 250 miles had I not picked up a nail. I bought several when they could be had for about $50. For that price I would buy 6 tomorrow. Definitely cheaper than any other route I have seen. They hold well on dry, wet, and fantastic on gravel. At a little more than $.01 per mile compared to almost $.05 mile on virtually any other tire. I will keep running them until K60's are $100. (Forever?)

I can barely get 2500 miles out of my Metzler Karoo Ts on my F800GS! My rear is totally destroyed I will have to mount a new one before the weekend.
I WILL be out this weekend most likely Saturday. Who wants to ride where? I've got a bunch of cool roads north west of the metroplex but I would like to explore south a bit more. |

Burbo, I like the tire (the 705's) I just didn't get squat for wear. Now I'll buy one of your spares from you 'cuz my front is doing fine and I can't find a rear. That is, if you'll let go of one. ;)
