Looks like he is on his way to Starbucks. Where is the dirt?

TXJames. I have stared at that wethead pic till I'm cross-eyed. Doesn't that look like a different tank than on the other pics? Like maybe the ADV tank?

In fact. I'm pretty convinced.

I also have a KLR650 and if I had a planned "Real Adventure Tour", it wouldn't be on a KLR. I can't carry that much spare oil ! ! ! I'd much rather take my current BMW (which I have dropped many times. It has crash bars and I have used them) to Alaska and back then invest in Mobil Oil Co. stock. If I wanted to have a throw away bike in Mexico, then I'd take a plated 400cc old dirt bike or something like that. Still wouldn't take a KLR. Just my 2 cents !

People ride Goldwings to Alaska, that is not what most would consider an Adventure Ride.

I guess that would depend on the route and the time of year. ;) Have you seen that dude that is up above the Article Circle right now? On an R1? Trying to pull a sled? lol

As to what makes an Adventure Ride an Adventure Ride, I will just have to pass. I am pretty sure the stuff I have done wouldn't make some people's cut. But, Hell. It sure held my attention.

Adventure ride or Adventure Tour. Some folk think going to Wal Mart is an adventure. There are Goldwings making the Alaska trip that ride 1000 miles of dirt road in a day, hell most guys on a little bike couldn't make 1000 miles of dirt road in a week. I've seen some full dress Harley guys take their bikes to spots that some DR400 owners wouldn't take their bikes. It just depends on the rider and what that rider thinks an adventure is. I've chased goats and herded cattle with my BMW where there weren't any single tracks. Your adventure is what you make of it, not the bike.

When we were in San Miguel de Allende last January we met Scots Chloe and Chris on their return from TDF on 650GS's. Chris saw our array of noble steeds and asked if we were "heading South" or just down there "playing around". I answered that we were just playing around. Later that evening I recounted the exchange for Helge Pedersen and he responded, "you answered correctly", and smiled.

So, I think it's like SOG said in that its kinda relative.

Some do, some don't. Mine sure did but only when I was running it hard.

It is the most common complaint. Well after the fact that it is a KLR, that is. ;)

I will say this only once...Adventure is a state of mind as much as the ride or the ride...ADV for SOG could be getting to his front gate on his XR...For all it means many things...Kinda like what I wrote on the front page of RTB site...Adventure begins when you leave your barcalounger and get your ASS out on the road headed anywhere but here
