Did you install your own screen? What problems were you having?

Just did mine. Ordered about 4 weeks ago and came today. About 1/2 hour to do the whole job and calibration. This rocks. Thank you sooooo much

Finally broke down and replaced my digitizer lastnight. Works great so far. The only hard part was aligning the adhesive tape and hooking up the two ribbon tapes. Need an extra set of hands here. Thanks for the post on this!

Just did mine and works awesome. Mine also came with the double sided tape. I'd say the hardest part was getting both sides off of that to stick it down.

Didn't get the screen plug in all the way on the first try and got a psychedelic color scheme - but all is good now.

I ordered a new digitizer from http://myworld.ebay.com/goodsupply08...id=p4340.l2559 on e-bay on 11.22.2011 and it arived at my home in Southern California on 12.2.2011.

The part I ordered was "Touch Screen Digitizer GARMIN ZUMO 550 79.3mmx 64.77mm" and this is exactly what I recieved.

Good deal!!!

Thank you to everybody that documented how to make this simple repair!

It works!

I just replaced my screen and digitizer as directed here. My Zumo 550 was getting long in the tooth, and it had been replaced once under Garmin Warranty 2 years ago after the corroded power contacts on the bottom shorted out the unit. The problem I had was a bad spot on the LCD itself, right in the center where the symbol of the car/bike was sitting. It obscured the view of the road and was very annoying. I spent $900 on this bloody thing 5 years ago, and really don't ever plan to spend that much again as I am now retired and saner than I was 5 years ago. A Garmin 660 doesn't look like much of an improvement to me, so I decided to replace the screen myself. Ordered from ebay (search for Zumo 550 screen) and followed the directions here. Took 15 minutes. Hardest part was getting those flexi ribbon cables back into the little clamps without messing it up. Got mine on the second try, powered up and good to go. Gotta love this site for this alone....

Just ordered my screen fix two days ago. We'll see what happens.

i sent my Zumo 550 out back in 2009, and was NOT going to send it back again! Thank goodness for the brilliant techno geeks at ADVRIDER.com! You guys are awesome!

Just did this with the full screen/digitizer set from Keeping Touch. Paypal on 11th, received on the 19th or 20th (not sure which; we picked up both days of mail on the 20th...)

~12 minutes off-bike to calibrated.

The new screen's frame is ever so slightly smaller than the OEM one, but it doesn't seem to have any practical effect.

Thank you so much

After 4 years of use, my Zumo 450 started having difficulty registering screen taps.

I ordered a new digitizer for $13 shipped from "mingxing200808" on ebay. Shipping was pretty quick from China at 10 days. The 79mm x 64.5mm size was a perfect fit.

There was no adhesive on the digitizer, so I used a thin 1/8" wide strip of double-sided tape on the bottom of the screen to hold it in place. Easy.

When I powered the unit back up, I held the power button for 30 seconds as recommended by Garmin so that it would go into screen calibration mode. When the screen turned on, all I got was a white back-lit screen. I opened the unit back up, disconnected then reconnected the ribbons into their ports, and reassembled the unit. One of the ribbon connectors must not have been seated properly because it powered up normally after that. I was pretty pleased because I thought I had created a pretty expensive paperweight.

The new digitizer operates beautifully! Screen taps are now easy and precise.

I ordered a second digitizer as a future backup. I figure this is pretty cheap insurance at $13.

Need some ideas for the double sided tape or something to glue the screens together.Like an idiot, after replacing the screen on my 450 with no problems I ordered another for my 550 from the same place without reading all the fine print and the second one came without the doublesided tape..

I'm thinking its important to have the screen sealed all the way around but have no clue as what to use.

Any ideas ?

The digitizer does not have to be 'sealed' all the way around. It simply needs to be held (indexed) to the screen. I use a very short strip of thin double sided tape in each corner. It makes it much easier to remove in the future with minimal risk of damaging the screen assy.
Nameplate engraving shops stock this tape and I'm sure if you ask they will just give you a piece.
