That looks like something you can have fun with, are you setting it up at home?

Almost ready for the fun part

My house currently looks like this so I don't want to get oven bits all over the place

a funny thing happened one baking day...

I had made a batch of bread one afternoon and set the loaves out to cool on a countertop. We went to visit some friends for about 1/2 hour. When we returned, there was one less loaf on the racks than I had left there. What the???

Turns out our dog (28 lb keeshond/mini aussie shepherd mix) had taken one for her own consumption. A couple of days later I found a stub of the loaf in her pillow under the desk. We kind of got clued in that she had taken the loaf by her penitent behavior when we returned.

Now I let it cool on a higher counter that she can't get at.

It'll be fun for sure, and a great spot for last minute ADV arrivals from out of town

Remains to be seen exactly how I'll use it, but likely Pizzas for dinner, close it up overnight, clean out the ash and bake some bread the next morning. Dry some tomatoes. Fire it back up.

Levain - Was that your baker that rescued the couple from a plane crash near the East Hampton Airport? Says he is a bread baker at Levain Bakery.

Nope. I'm in Rhode Island. Nice to see a baker doing the right thing though

So I'm very late to this party...

I've recently started regularly baking homemade bread because I absolutely loves me some bread and even my worst homebaked loaf has been so much better than anything found in the local grocery store.

Anyway, I started perusing this thread to see if I could figure out a way to make my whole wheat sandwich bread fluffier. I use half whole wheat and half all purpose flour currently, and a recipe from a cookbook that I love. My head is now absolutely spinning with the unbelievable wealth of information here. So, first off, can anyone provide a link to the NY Times/Lahey recipe that I've seen referenced many times now? And, can anyone recommend a website or cookbook for a bread baking newb that wants to expand her bread baking prowess?

Many thanks.

Oh, and Jim W. - your breads look unbelievably tasty. I think there must be witchcraft and/or voodoo involved! I'm going to Maine in November and will have to take a more southerly route home that includes a stop in Providence.

Here's the recipe:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/08/dining/081mrex.html

WRT cookbooks, I use a variety, including the Sunset Cookbook of Breads, ad Bernard Clayton's The Complete Book of Breads. I think the regulars in this thread will have some good recommendations.
