Joints, you got any brains for sale? I need some.....
I thought, as I was going down the stairs to the mancave, that wearing flipflops is not a good idea when working with 18" tire irons.
1.3 minutes into the job an iron hit a toe with the pointy end. Amazing what a squalk such a little part can put up. No pain ... no new 606 on a rim!

I do have to say I love my new bead breaker from harbor freight. The wrasslin match has tilted in my favor.

This can come out as a gilt-edged sword sometimes. After not riding very much for 31 years it took about 6 months to get back in the habit of looking through the turns instead of the immediate road. The fault lies in getting tunnel vision looking as far through the turn as possible and not noticing things that happen between your distance focus and the immediate area in front of your tire. I have on two occasions been so intent on watching through the turn that I never saw the critters (a rabbit and a pasture poodle) that darted out almost immediately in front of me. Heeled over, hard into a turn and hitting a rabbit was an experience. The bloody hog damn near through me on my a$$!

Lesson learned - you must look as far into the turn as you can - especially for hazards, but you must also keep your focus moving and remain aware of the little things that "dart" out!

Maryland DNR Trail Report Calls for Off-Highway Vehicle Trail Closures

http://capwiz.com/amacycle/issues/al...U&show_alert=1

I know we are all going to provide a comment to DNR as requested...right???

I'll even up the ante....if you always hated essay writing, send me a PM and I will ghost-write you 2 paragraphs for you to email in....

Maryland DNR Trail Report Calls for Off-Highway Vehicle Trail Closures
Your Comments Needed by April 30th

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has released the results and recommendations of its study on the environmental effects of motorized trails on state-owned lands and is soliciting comments from off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts.

The “Off-Road Vehicle Trail Assessment and Report” makes regional assessments and recommendations. The document’s most significant recommendations deal with the western region since this region holds the most popular OHV trails.

The western region’s No. 1 recommendation is to “Close the following authorized ORV trails: Poplar Lick (SRSF), Green Ridge (GRSF)… Further evaluation of the Burkholder Trail (PGSF) is suggested for potential closure or relocation. “

The AMA is still reviewing the DNR’s documents as well as comments forwarded to the AMA from riders familiar with the trails in question and has not yet completed its official comments. However, the AMA’s initial review raises these chief concerns:

The DNR says it wants to curtail illegal OHV activity in unauthorized area but the most significant action items in the report are to close authorized areas. This action serves only to punish law-abiding riders while doing nothing to curtail illegal use in unauthorized areas.
It is difficult to fully assess the condition of the trails by reviewing the trail photos in the report but many of the trail areas shown appear to be “fixable” with common trail maintenance techniques. However, the report doesn’t provide any information about what mitigation practices, if any, have been tried in these areas.
The report alludes to what the DNR calls the “unsustainable” location of the Poplar Lick and Green Ridge trails but fails to explain why portions of these trails could not be relocated and redesigned rather than closed.

Generally speaking, there are effective techniques to address the externalities associated with motorized recreation. The DNR should pursue a plan of more active management of motorized recreation rather than resort to closures.

Take action:

Please review the Off-Road Vehicle Trail Assessment and Report and comment through the DNR’s email link on the DNR’s website by April 30, 2011.

Mine's been apart for TOO LONG... but now I'm in the same shape as you. I need to test the 606. I did a mess of stuff, and am happy with the tests I have done so far. The new steering bearing has been wheelied several times. Wouldn't want to spoil it right off the bat. Besides, I needed to see how the new 15/47 gearing worked.

I got one more fork seal to replace, then I'll pack, oil my boots, and load the gps. Might replace my front wheel bearings, but probably not.
