So how much $ has the "Shiny Things" thread cost you?

Ever since JM broke out into the different categories we have now, This “Shiny Things” thread was directed my purchases on many items to say the least.

Some of the items I needed, some I didn’t until I read about them here.

The wealth of knowledge contained in ADV never ceases to amaze me!

So I’ll start with my list.

So what’s my total?

Weber Charcoal Grill (the big one) $300
AR & accessories $1000 and growing
Seiko watch $200
Kayak & accessories $500 and growing
BOB & all the stuff inside $300

And that’s not to mention all the Harbor Freight stuff I have purchased! (dam you Jim)

So my total so far is ………………………………… $2300 and growing.

So I want to thank all the inmates for their knowledge I have read over the years!

So what’s your total???????

$0.00 but, in fairness, I already owned my KLR before this thread started.

Lol.

I'm at $0 too. No klr, just a tiny house.

Yeah, hasn't really cost me a nickel. I would have bought all the stuff I bought anyway.

Nothing wrong with a little window-shopping, though!

Same here.

Been oogling the various RV threads but we already have a great truck and truck camper.

And the compact tractor stuff, but we are very happy with our New Holland 4WD.

Always great to hear about other experiences though.

I was a flea-market whore for a while. That cost me some $$s. Shiny is more for afterwards...or for when you've already made the decision, and need wisdom.

I've been resisting the urge to build a Moto van for over a year now. I'm trying to get my finances in better order before getting yet another toy, but it's not easy when I'm keeping up with Hayduke's "Vans!" thread.

With most of my other passions (Jeeps, guitars, trucks, guns, martial arts, hotrods, dirt-bikes, fitness) I had already paid-up to the level I want before I started reading Shiny Things. So I was tens of thousands in the hole beforehand.

The temptation is certainly here though.

Saved $$$

I believe that the Shiny Things Forum has probably saved me money (at least until I get sucked into the multi rotor world). Some of the topics I learned enough about to realize that I did not need to 'go there'. Other topics I learned from and was able to use that knowledge to avoid potential pitfalls. I consider the knowledge gained to be more valuable than the dollars spent (so far).

I think I've broke even for the exact same reasons. But mostly from the KLR riders mentioning how little they paid for stuff.

Wait. What are KLR riders doing in Shiny Things?
