I believe we did, but I think that the fact that Sputnik was in orbit over Kennedy's head was a bigger problem than the fact that we didn't have a flag on the moon.

Dan, Sorry but the Mediterranean explorer Christopher Columbus was late to the party. He was actually third. Preceded by Leif Ericson, then the Knights Templer.
Wow, A free Fly casting lesson actualy is down my line of hobbies. I used to trout fish 3-5 times per week, then it sort of stopped when my Daughter was born (she turns 20 next month).

Anyway, the only reason I even knew the answer is I just watched "the holy grail in America" 1 hour before you posted this.

I say we never left the moon. How can the plan a Mars mission without a closer test?

I love it when they find stuff that changes history. Especially when they said (they believe) Columbus had actual maps to find America

I'm skeptical on that, due to that he stated before he left that he was actually trying to find the Indies.

I think he was a tool.

Depends,

If whoever is documenting the incedent prevails, it goes down as a victory.

The next time around [same dude] comes out on the bottom, he records it as an unfair massacre. [Think Custer]

From my trip to NL in 2010
Leif Erikson discovered North America nearly 500 yrs before Columbus here: St Anthony, NL. Actually Vinland was his settlements name. Named after the grapes they found in abundance.

And his group lived & worked in huts similar to this:

Inside of the large hut

What I see is every time an Imperialist enters another culture they swoop in usually spreading diseases. Then pilfer it for whatever valuables they can find and return back claiming that they were doing Gods work spreading Christianity.

James Cameron got it right on the Avatar Movie story line. Nothing to give, only to take.
