Just depends on how aggressive they want to get.

I tried to buy that bike. These guys were just low balling the base price. When I spoke with them they wanted $4400 OTD. Instead I bought one from a dealer in Tracy, CA for $3426 OTD. Other dealers out here show a base price near 3400-3500. So there must be some kind of deal from Kawasaki. I only have 20 miles on it, so I post some impressions more once I get some time on it.

Nice price David. And AWESOME trip (viewed your link).

Any thoughts on a similar trip with the 250SF ???

Edit:

The one dealer I went to had a "sale" prce of about $3700 but then they said with all the blah, blah, blah,.... "you'd be looking about $5200 OTD".

This is my first time in the under 650 market and I've got a lot to learn or understand because there are some serious fees when buying these smaller bikes -- or is it all a sham for more money. *shrug*

Thanks. I haven't planned any trips yet for the KLX. I did go from Mexico to Canada in 24 hours in 08 and 2-up last summer from Cali to DC on the Ninja.

Doing research on the KLX price, As best I could learn that Kawasaki reimburses dealers $41 for set up (it could cost them more to pay a worker to uncrate it, install the wheel, bars, battery and fire it up, probably not) and it charges each dealer $199 for shipping. (same fee on every bike) Some money is rebated back to dealers after the sale depending on the terms of the purchase. Often dealers get incentives to purchase certain packages of bikes too. This means the "invoice" price could vary from dealer to dealer and on bike to bike depending on the terms of purchase.

The dealer I bought from listed the bike at $2999, added 8.25% for Tax, 116 CA vehicle registration fees and $55 Documentation fee. $3426.46

I have no idea what they paid for it.

See, that makes sense to me. It's straight forward. The one dealership was adding shipping, set-up, docs, taxes (7%) and other stuff to the tune of an additional $1500. That's just crazy talk in my book.

I hate to wait this out (not my personality) but for me I don't see a reason to pay over $5k for a 2009. Maybe I'm mis-guided but I can get a current MY for just a bit more money.

Thanks but too far of a commute.

I did find a used 2009 with only 27 miles on the ODO for $3k locally. No warranty though. Not sure if I should consider this nonetheless. *shrug*

I figured just thought Id mention it. The chances of me selling a bike in Mi right now are slim to none. You should be able to find a new one OTD for 4k. I paid $4500 for mine in oct 08. I like the bike just need more power. Good luck in your search.

Cool. Good luck in your sale though.

Thoughts on the one I mentioned -- no warranty but only 27 miles on it?

What is the warranty "worth" (preowned vs. new)?

I'm assuming most owners never had an original warranty claim but that's a guess.

407, that no waranty seems a little fishy with only 27 miles. Mine came with a 1 year warranty. When that was up I had many chances for extended warantys of 1-4 years. Not sure if waranty transfers from owner to owner. Good questions to ask dealer, also ask the story behind the bike, only 27 miles??? The klx is solid bike, cant think of how you could hurt it in 27 miles.

Thanks.

The bike is being sold by another bike dealer (not Kawi). My guess is someone bought it, didn't like it and traded it in on another brand. I will confirm the mileage but it seems like a great price for essentially a brand new bike, but no warranty.

I wouldn't worry about buying a more-or-less new bike with no warranty, assuming the discount is decent. Problems with bikes like this are few, and getting the dealer to address them under warranty can be a headache.

Looks great but a bit extreme for me. This bike will be my commuter to and from work (about 15 miles round trip).

Thanks and good point about actually getting warranty work done.

I called the dealership with the used 2009 with 27 miles on it. The typical "blah, blah, blah" and it'll be about 4100 OTD. So I may shop around for a new one or press this dealer to lower their price. For once, time is on my side.
