I'm looking at this or a Suzuki TU250 for my first bike.

No one in town has a TU250 and I saw a leftover '09 KLXSF at a dealer and really liked the look and feel of it. They have it priced at $3499 (pre-fees), it was a demo unit and there are a few scratches actually. So my question is: what would a fair offer be? I don't think I should have to pay for freight, set-up, etc. on a bike that they received in late '08/early '09. Plus I think the minor cosmetic flaws should count for something. Would asking to get out for about $3200-3300 be a ridiculous lowball?

Thanks in advance! I've been lurking on this site for a while now and the community is great!
Demo? Huh... didn't think dealerships (minus Harley) gave test rides.

Anyway, no your suggested price is not out of line -- at least to me. If anything, I would give them an out-the-door price. Just say, "$3200 out-the-door" and see what they say or do. Also, does the bike come with any factory (not dealership) warranty?

I actually purchased my 2009 KLX250SF this past January. It was from a BMW Motorcycle dealership. Bike had 37 miles on the odometer. Warranty is still good until August of this year. My ride away price was about $3900.

Good luck on your seach and possible purchase.

Yeah, the demo thing surprised me. Will check into the warranty, I want to say I remember there being a factory warranty. Thanks for the tip, this is all new to me.

I know I'm basically talking to myself on this thread, lol, but just wanted to share that I got my new-ish 250SF on Saturday morning.

I had my brother follow me home from the dealer and took some country highways to get home. I was a little nervous at first, but I quickly loosened up. This is such an easy bike to ride! So nimble and light, it's perfect for me (I'm a smallish dude), I feel so much better on it than I do on a cruiser type or even a standard.

I've been riding around my neighborhood getting a feel for it and I'm gonna practice some quickstops in a parking lot, but soon I'll be ready for my commute.

Btw, it turns out it was an MSF bike, not a demo, so I got a decent deal. I probably paid a little more than I should have; let's just say it was a learning experience for me, as far as negotiating goes.

I'd post pics, but they can't beat the one's that are already in this thread.

Laugh Nice

Keep practicing stops. That bike has killer brakes. What it lacks in HP it makes up for in handling. Check your tire air pressure. 29 front 33 rear. It says right on the bike. READ the Manual. :)

Enjoy!

So, in the area of affordable super moto motorcycles, we have the Suzuki DRZ400S, the Kawasaki KLX250SF, and now the Honda CRF230M. The Huskys, KTMs, aren't very affordable. The BMW 650 X-Moto was dropped, and exspensive. I would bet tha Honda may drop their 230cc model, as they aren't selling well and are often pretty discounted. I'd guess Honda will keep the dual sport model.

That's an awesome picture, dan0. Inspired me to post a few pics of mine.

I've had a few bikes over the years. This is my all time favorite bike.

Awesome pics, guys!
I took it on the commute for the first time today, luckily, I've got a fairly easy one. Most of it is a low traffic 4 lane, two-way road where you get a lot of space. It was so much more enjoyable than driving a car and a lot faster than riding my bicycle!

Update:
I've had it about a week and a half now and I'm loving it. Engine is still breaking in, but it's getting smoother (or maybe I'm just getting better at riding).

I've been getting about 70 mpg so far. I'm 5'7" and 140lbs.

Sounds like a winner! I hesitated a bit too long and missed out on an 09 used with a little bit of warranty left on it. It just got sold. My hang up with it was the bike was already totaly molested with only 1300 mi. The kid already took all the Graphics off it, did a hack job on the lower rear fender, added some goofy rock star energy drink logos on it. They wanted 3300. (dealer). I actually had done a search for factory graphics and found some, decided maybe with a little tlc it was worth the money savings...but I hesitated too long. I cant get a dealer under 4 grand out the door anywhere near me. And the economy has me a little worried.
