Mounting the leash?

Ok so I got my MLV-Y "open vest" today from Alan @ SaferMoto - all good there Alan answered all my questions and shipping was fast. The Medium size was the right choice - I wear a large in most jackets and this fits over the jacket easily (pretty as it was out of the box). Not too heavy, or confining - I think it will be great.

now ... ONE QUESTION for you folks that have bought these for use with the F650/F800GS twins: Where/how did you end up mounting the leash?
I always spend way too much time on crap like this, so I thought I'd ask FIRST ... before I go out to the garage and pop the seat off...

I don't use the leash with mine. Figure it's safe enough without it, why go overboard, you know?

HIT MC Airbag Vest

Hey! Thanks to all of you for your feedback on these Motorcycle Air Bag systems. I just received my Vest-YS. Very happy with this product and would recommend the YS or the MC2 for bikers.... I hooked the rip chord up to the frame between the seat and the gas tank. Riding with this vest takes some getting use to, ONLY when you stop and want to get off the bike....gotta remember to UNCLICK it. Duhhhh

Excellent product, HIT ! ! !

Tonopah:

Thanks for the picture! ... it makes sense to teather on the right since the CO2 cart. is on that side of the jacket ... I always mount and dismount on the left (I have never considered whether this was how most people do it or not) and am thinking about how much slack I'll have standing on the other side of the bike... probably there will be plenty ... it's going to rain tomorrow anyway ... I'll have time ...

HIT Motorcycle Air Bag Vest

It does make sense to mount the rip-chord on the right side because thats where the cartridge and trigger mechanism are, however do you attach the chord between your leg and the bike frame or route it outside your leg to the bike frame?

Get on bike. Unhook tether from attachment on tank bag. Snap tether into attachment on vest. Ride.

When I stop the bike, I detach the tether from the vest and attach it to the tank bag. If I forget, the tether will tug and you will be reminded as you try to dismount the bike. The tether requires a really substantial yank to activate the airbag and just forgetting to unhook it and dismounting the bike won't set the thing off.

Soon, dealing with the tether becomes as automatic and fastening or unfastening your seat belt in your car.

The airbag is extra insurance on top of ATGAAT.

Someone I know pulled forward from a stop sign at night a couple of weeks ago in his car and boom, a guy on a motorcycle ran into the front left part of his car. Serious dent to left front fender, dented hood, cracked windshield as the rider flew across his hood and landed on the other side of the car. The rider came out reasonably ok (I think) but I suspect that a Hit Air vest would have really helped him out.

good luck with that system... last person I knew of with a "break-away" connector tethering himself to a motorcycle ended up being crushed under an R1100RT after rolling it off the road into the desert... almost died

pass... super-pass... uber-pass... on rubbish like this
