I think Maglight outsells the others like 10 to 1, they won't be going anywhere soon. I would bet we have a dozen or so around the house (most being solitairs).

They were supposed to release a new LED mini mag in Sept. but delayed it untill December IIRC. Should be nice compared to spending $20 on upgrading a incan MM. It will be awesome if it is focusable like the incan MM.

That said I like my Jetbeam BA10, it will outshine my 3D Maglight.

As I stated previously I like my 3-D cell Maglite because of its added utility as head knocker. I don't need something that's super bright as long as it removes that dead spot in the center of the beam that my current Maglite has today.

Got an email from 4Sevens this week: 15% off code through Veteran's Day

Clever code it is too: VETS2011

The 4Sevens lights have great packaging for gifting... you know.. with Xmas and all coming up... good for a son, father, uncle etc... I got a Quark 123/2 for my father-in-law for helping us out with some electrical work.. he loved it...

Anyway... just thought I would share that code..

And again.. for the record... I have nothing to do with 4Sevens..

The led version seems to still have the "dead spot" you refer to.
Small price to pay for the superior head knocking feature.

A heavy Maglite might well work to knock senseless an assaultive ruffian, but I far prefer the ability to blind the motherfucker senseless with a 450 lumens LED before he gets close enough to strike.

I've already got the old school 3-D version with it's superior head knocking feature.

I hope mr postman shows up tomorrow with my two presents to myself. One is a new Fenix TK12 that was on sale at SMKW for half off ($49.95) as opposed to 96.95...well almost half off. And a cool knife is coming with it. The Fenix line is killer for the money. almost 260 lumens for a torch that is also as well built as the SF lights.

Well a 3-D Maglite has more uses for knocking things than just heads. Breaking a car window, banging on a door, taping an angry dog on the snout, and probably countless other uses. I've not used a Maglite to tap an angry dog on the nose, but if I was in such a situation I would rather use something physical like striking an animal than hoping I could temporarily blind the animal.

I'm not sure I'd want a 450 lumens flashlight around. I've got a couple 100+ lights and I've turned those damn things on a few times with reflective surfaces around and I end up blinded for a minute or two. I can't image what turning on a 450 lum lamp would be like. I guess I'm thinking that a 450 lum flashlight would be a tool that's too specific for my general needs. Would I be correct in guessing that a 450 lum flashlight has some sort of speed loader for the batteries. Such a bad boy probably sucks down C123's like a kid with M&M's.

I've had my LD20 for a year or two now and I love it.

normal mode has 3 brightness levels, lowest being about on par with what my 2xAA maglite would do... click it up, and up another level... that's generally more than adequate... twist the body and it gets just stupid bright. Rated a little over 200 lumens. Even in "turbo mode" it goes just as long on a pair of AA's as my maglite did.

Only complaint is that if you have the lens right between the two modes and they go back and forth a few times real fast, the micro will lock up and the light won't work till you pull the batts for a few minutes. It's been dropped dozens of times, heat/cold cycled, gone swimming, and it's still kicking ass.

How about a 3-cell Maglite with a picatinny rail to mount a flashlight?

Its almost Christmas anyone have a lead on a kick ass flash light for a gift. Lets say under $100, runs on AA or AAA batteries ( I hate trying to find CR123s). Extra points for made in the U.S. Im leaning towards the Malkoff MD2 even though I'll need to keep CR 123s handy its bad ass looking and made in the US.

CR123 batteries are plentiful - you can find excellent deals on them at Amazon.

Buy them in bulk, and you'll be ready for whatever comes.

I'll never buy another AA or AAA light.

I have a shitload of AA rechargeables, and chargers for them.
My GPS uses 2xAA.
My camera uses 2xAA.
I'd rather have an extra pair or two of AA's that I can swap between whatever device needs them at the time, than carry yet another set of batteries just for a flashlight.
My flashlight uses 2xAA.
