so i leave BMW Perth, and ride a couple of streets away to a strip of bike shops, looking for a new set of gloves (somewhere, somehow, lost 'one'..)

4 shops all with worse than 'shit' customer service... meant i did my best Michael Jackson impersonation... got on my bike and rode off wearing one glove..

.

heading home (east) now.....

left Perth and headed out the Brookton highway...

started getting low on fuel as none of the "towns" out here were really 'towns'

didnt look like i'd make it to Brookton, so i turned off and headed into Westdale to get fuel..

hmmm... havent sold fuel here for a damn long time by the looks of the place...

having about 20km of fuel left, and Brookton being 50 kms away, i rolled into the local grain depot to see if there was anywhere close to get fuel..

"nah mate, nearest fuels out at Brookton"....

no one has a jerry can ('nah mate, hadnt used it for ages so pulled it outa the ute yesterdy...")

so anyway, after about half an hour or so, sitting in a donga watchen em eat microwaved steak and gravy (didnt look so good) and talking shit, we head off into the yard and find some thin air hose that will get past the 'anti-syphoning thingie' in the ute...

rinse a coke bottle and i end up with 2 litres of fuel

hand shakes and thanks and im...

Gone ...Again

make it (just) to Brookton, fuel up and head out towards Corrigin..

stop at the "Dog Cemetery" on the way...

resting place of pooches such as 'Tiny', 'Dusty', 'Cocoa' and 'Trigger'

then continue on to Corrigin for a late lunch...

from there it was out the Kondinin Rd,

thru Kondinin and onto Hyden...

went straight thru Hyden and out to Wave Rock..

always wanted to come here...

but to be honest, it was a bit of a let-down... not as big as i was expecting....

i mean, it was still big and impressive and well worth the look, but you know..

anyway, then it was back into Hyden to Fuel up, get some beer and work out which way across to Norseman...

Oh and meet a few of the locals...

.

.

'

and check out some wild life...

.

so had stocked up, and worked out my route...

time to bid farewell to Hyden..

and hit the road...

the sun was starting to drop, but luckily it was behind me now... really brought out the color in the trees

continued on thru the wheatbelt...

'

sun started dropping fast..

had a quick stop at a rabbit proof fence...

.

bike was slowly starting to look a bit more respectable after this mornings sponge bath

and back out on the sandy track..

continued on past some mines, sun was just about to disapear for the day...

just as well i'd paid BMW way too much to fix my headlight this morning...

it had hit darkness, i hadnt made it as far as id hoped given my fuel 'issue' earlier in the day..

i rode on for a bit, but decided, given the wildlife, it wasnt worth going another 2 hours.....

i continued on till i found a little track running of into the scrub... and headed in..

the track ran out, i found some clear flat ground,

setup camp..

(i really like this photo btw )

made some dinner, had a few beers, took the obligatory nightime bike shot:

and hit the sack.....

so woke up early... got up... looked at fly .. thought ''' "hmm...lookin a bit odd"..

but anyway...kept me dry (not that it rained or anything )

anywho, packed up camp and made my way back out to the 'main road'..

and was ....

gone.... again

headed off towards Norseman...

saw few roads that didnt look too inviting...

anyway, it was about now that my camera started to tell me i had a 'flat battery..'

so photos became a bit rare...

but here is a couple coming in the back way to Norseman...

it was a good ride in thru the salt lakes...

'

since i was out of battery and didnt have a charger, there was no photos of Norseman...

but not a bad little town.... stopped for lunch...

so lets see if we cant finish this one off....

so lunch and re-fuelled in Norseman..

Then it was time to slab it east...

it was Tuesday... i had the rest of the week.... but it was still a few thousand km's home...

rough plan from here was to get to 'that' spot near Eucla i found on the way over and, since id been moving so fast , just sit there for 2 days...

read a book, drink some wine (wouldnt have to worry about keeping that cold...)

then start moving Thursday arvo again....

anyway, since my camera battery died...there is no photos today

(and i'm just gonna post this bit now coz my computer is on its death bed and keeps crashing... so we'll finish this tonight...but in bits... )

so slabed it out into the Nullabor again, picked up an expensive 'cheap' bottle of red from a roadhouse (oh and a 6 pack for the first night)

made it to my 'spot'...set up camp, had some dinner, a quick swim, a six pack....and called it a night....

plan next day was to just sit still... read a book, have a swim, drink some red...

half an hour into the next day i was going stir crazy...

2 hours into the day, i said 'sod it'...

was a beautiful place... but i needed someone else there too...

got on the bike a buggered off.........

poped into Fowlers Bay...

town was about to be taken over by a sand dune... after sitting on the camera battery for a while, built up enough charge to take a few more pics

yet another jetty pic...

and of course, that sand dune...

after a bit of a break, headed off again and made it all the way to Streaky Bay....

thought id get to the pub by 8:30 for a feed...and did just... but when i asked em if they were still doingfood, they said nope...

sign on the door said they cooked till 8:30...

asked em what time it was...

"quarter to ten"....

bloody time zones......

anyway, they wacked a frozen pizza in the microwave for me...

it filled a hole...

caravan park was chockers...and $25 for an unpowered site...

pub said i could have a room for 50 bucks .. since i was shagged...i took it... then stayed up too late (read "last") in the bar and so woke up the next morning even tired-er than i was the night before.....

plan had changed to just goin home... but having woken up in Streakey Bay, i figure i may as well just duck down to Coffin Bay....

was only a couple of hundred KMs...

took all day...

largely because i ducked into Venus Bay Conservation park...

park had a nice big fence and gate around it..

and was pretty much all nice 4wd tracks inside...

and some pretty big dunes...

tough place....

came back out thru that gate...electrified too

..

so from there it was thru the park down a lot of tracks and back out and down to Eliston then onto Coffin Bay...

First stop was the pub for a beer (another hot day...)

asked how much a room was... got a 'big' answer...but after a few beers, got the price down ('no ones gonna come in now'...)

had a feed of local oysters etc..

stayed up way too late again... pub closing time

went off to my room, got sorted, poped out front to just check bike and discovered the bar staff heading on over with some more beers!

dont know why i waste money thinking i'll ever get a good long sleep in hotel rooms.....

so next day was predictably slow..

quick look around coffin bay..

and the National Park..

.

then it was time to leave....

camera battery died again

so no more pics...

just rode across to Port Lincoln, up to Whyalla....then got a 'tail wind' from Whyalla and got back to Adelaide in 'good time'

20 days, 8,500kms...

so a month or 2 after i got back from WA, this happened...

figured it was just a rocker cover gasket so wasnt too fussed (my old troopie didnt even have a rocker cover gasket for the last 2 years of its life ), but anyway, i was 'planning' so i figured id better get it looked at, and it is still under warranty...

so popped into 'my local BMW service centre', mechanic had a quick looked, reconed the same thing as me, said they'd order a gasket in and give me a call when it arrived....

so 3 or 4 days latter, gasket is in, and bike is booked in for it to get done..

it got done (under warranty) no hasles and they even washed my bike (bastards!)

came back looking almost as clean as new....

rode her around for a few weeks, and no sign of a leak....

figured it would need a 'bigger' test though...

so i strapped this stuff on the back...

and you can guess what happened next.......

well, ok, since no one guessed (or even attempted to guess ) i'll just go right ahead and tell you what happened next.....

well, i finished that last post about 10am on the Thursday morning, the day before Good Friday...

45 mins later, i jumped on the bike and rode north east from Adelaide... i was due to meet Phil (Philmeup) at Renmark at 1pm... 250kms away... i left home about 10:45am...

fuelled up at a servo and texted Phil that i was running 30 mins late...

got every red light out of Adelaide and then had roadworks pretty much non stop for the first 50kms...

pulled in 'somewhere' and text Phil that i'd be an hour late...

finally got a bit of speed going and made some miles up... stopped at Bamera to check phone to see if Phil was perhaps bored and heading out this way to meet me... and had a text from him that he was running late and asking 'did i bring a shovel'.....

(Phil was staying in Mildura the night before, getting a change of tyres > and heading the 150km across to Renmark, via some dirt.... )

turned out he got 'bogged' and only got to renmark 3 mins before me

so we had some lunch and a catchup, went and fuelled up, grabbed some beers for 'later'.... and headed off out onto that shitty bloody road to Wentworth...

but we turned left (north) before we got to the real bad bit of that shitty bloody road to Wentworth....

and into Dangalli Conservation Park..

the first 10km was fairly sandy, but after that, the track hardened up a lot..

stopped for a bit of 'fun' at one of the dams...

then back out onto the tracks for some nice high speed fun..

Phil gives the track the thumbs up!

didnt see any traces of the mud Phil had found that morning on the other side of the Murray River....pretty dry up here...

anyway we had (in the end) made good time, even after a late start, and decide to set camp and have a couple of beers... seemed like a good spot...

camp was set, the sun started to drop...

chains copped an oiling, the beers started, the sun set...

we had some dinner and an early night as we had some 600kms of dirt to cover tomorrow
