I really liked how you did not hold to long on the scenes. At least to me the cuts seemed just about right. Long enough to take in what was happening but not long enough to get boring.

The GPS info at the end of each day was a nice touch too as were your music choices.

Re: music.....if you feel like it could post a play list of what you used in the video? I know a few of them but there were some others that I had not heard before that I liked.

Oh, I also liked that you included the Lat/Lon for a few sites. And of course playing Rout 66 while you were riding it was classic!

The part where you were setting up camp and cooking helped set the mood.

Can you tell I liked the vid?

Jon...
Thanks Jon.. I tried to find a happy medium between the clip length.. I drop in all my clips and then started cutting back. It's funny how these things come together.. like near the end of day 2, I didn't plan on looking up at the sky or that the words of the song had "sky" in them.. my wife was like.. wow good planning, heck I didn't even catch it till she said it!

And I didn't have as much entertainment as Motoriley has on his.. haha you just can't reproduce that. It was just me.. enjoying a solo ride, & I think we can all connect with that feeling...

Now I know what I need to do and what not to do, I really like the position of the camera on the second video, I have more mounts now so I can perfect it a bit, and now that the firmware allows for live feed I can really dial it in.

My music selection I try to choose out of the ordinary but a bit relevant to what's going on either in my head or in the video..

Song List:
Blind Pilot "I Buried A Bone"
Heartless Bastards "Came A Long Way"
Chuck Berry "Route 66"
Explosions in the Sky "????" - i can't remember the title

Oceansize "Music for a Nurse"
Johnny Cash "Hurt"
Jon Foreman "Southbound Train"

Let's see some more fellas...

First GoPro Video

Nice clip. I liked the pacing as well. For anyone looking for music to use in your clips where you won't have the copyright police on your case check http://www.jamendo.com/en/
You have to do a bit of digging but there is lots of neat stuff and every clip has a download button and it is OK to use as long as you credit the band.

First video and music site

Bash3r,

I know how hard and time consuming it can be to edit video (used to edit 3/4" back in the day). So when I see something I like, I try to make a point of telling the person(s) that worked on it.

Thanks for the play list.

Motoriley,

Thanks for posting the link to the music. I took a quick look but will check it out closer when I have more time.

3/4"

Back in 86-87 I was editing on a Sony RM440 with a VO 5800-5850 system (no time code) it was big news when I switched to an RM450 and BVU800 series decks....man I'm getting old....

Thanks for the feedback.....

The video quality looks a lot better on Vimeo anyway so I think I'll check them out.

Another Vimeo question

I was going to sign up for a Vimeo account but I have a question before I do.

When it asks for your name during the signup process is that the name that shows up on-line, or can you pick something different to be public?

If it matters, I'll probably go with the free account to start with.

Thanks,

Jon...

You can put anything you want for your First & Last name..

I started with the free version and it worked out fine for a while, but then I wanted to upload more each week so I got the Vimeo Plus.. YouTube is pretty good, but the 10min video limit is just ridiculous...

Have fun..

I don't like the ten minute limit of YouTube, but it is free and it is easier to point people to - plus for some forums it is easier to embed the video.

Also, you can cut it up into ten minute segments, which usually works okay.

Vimeo does have better quality - I just did not get past having to pay for larger files.

Vimeo and Youtube

Youtube now has 15 minute limit.
The nicest part about a Vimeo Pro account is the detailed statistics. It doesn't just tell you how many people pushed play but also how many watched the whole clip which is a much better indicator of how well people like it. It is also cool to see who watched by country. Neat to think someone in Montenegro is watching your clip.

I'll check that out! I also like embeding HD player, full control over the player too, totally disconnect from Vimeo.com if you want, I like that flexibility. But yes, if you don't use it enough I'd stick with the free acct. Or youtube.. I have other projects I can use my Vimeo acct for, so its good for me..

Wow....looked those up and that was a trip down memory lane. I don't know if those were the same model numbers but the stuff I used sure looked just like that. If I remember correctly the news crews were in the process of switching to Beta Cams back then. Which was so much nicer than having to lug around the seperate recording decks with the camera's.

Time code....that sure would be nice to have with the GoPro. I think my mini-dv camera has time code though. For some reason I seem to remember seeing it the last time I imported raw footage from the camera.

Thanks for the blast from the past.

OR how about the dang thing keeping the correct time... (had to swap a battery and doh).. this way you could match up the time of your footage to your GPS routes so you know exactly where footage was shot..

My two videos there are parts I can't remember what section of my route the video was shot.. no way to zero in on that .. I need to come up with some way of tracking where my footage is shot on long rides..

any suggestions or what has worked for others? When external mic is an option I can just say where i'm at..

Bash3R,

I personally have not run into that issue (only have one battery) but I have been thinking about what you said.

1). I noticed that you used a GPS. If you sync the GoPro time to the GPS and then set way points as you go would that not work? Or can you not pull date/time out of a track or way point? I honestly can not remember.

2). I have an iPhone and if I let it use my location with the camera then every time I take a picture it adds Lat/Lon and Altitude to the image tags. If you have a phone that will do that maybe taking pictures on your phone of stuff you want to keep track of is an option.

3). More basic idea would be a scratch pad and pen and make notes. But there has to be some cool high-tech way to do it on the fly.

Did I totally misunderstand what you wanted to do?

Jon...
