Are these cameras durable? Anyone have one fall apart?
I tried last night to buy one on Amazon and many of the recent reviews were negative, complaining about the mounts cracking or the cameras themselves not working properly. It killed my desire to purchase. Maybe it's just a few people being vocal, but I'd like to know if the camera will fall apart after 5 uses. Has anyone mounted a DSLR to their bike and concluded it does a better job and is equally protected as the GoPRo? |

heavily used on the bike using RAM mounts. Recently used on a family vacation where it went underwater. No issues. used on roller-coasters, used by the kids, etc. So far so good. |

GoPro
These things are super durable. Three guys I ride with have them as well. We have smacked, submerged and crashed these things. All of them still work perfectly. Get the RAM mounts. Any plastic mount is going to break if you fall on it! Most people on the net are idiots. A DSLR bolted to a bike going off-road isn't going to last.

I would like some info as well.
* How long does the battery last? Is the 2.5hours stated on the site realistic? * Apart from the battery pack, can I get some extra batteries? I want to charge 3 or 4 of them and have a full day's (6-7 hours) capacity at my disposal. * How many GBs for an hour of footage @720p 16:9 video? * Can I have the link of that on-line store that had the lowest prices in the US? (a few pages back) Thank you in advance!

Cheers mate! I'll check the faq as well, so do you need the charger to charge the batts off the device, or are there other ways around it?

Getting charged
You need the camera or the bacpac to charge the batts. The cheapest way to get a spare charger is to buy a second bacpac. Then all you need is some USB power. Before the bacpac came out I bought a charger but the bacpac is out so no need now. It also means that at the end of the day you could charge 3 batts at once and since it takes over an hour per batt that would be nice as well.

I get about 5 hrs on a 16gb card @720p 25fps.
As motoriley says, get the dessicant strips. If there's any moisture in the air when you put the gopro in its case as soon as the sun is in front of you, it'll start fogging up... I've lost too much footage to fogging. Dammit... |
