Why I didn't ride my airhead GS this weekend...
A picture is worth a thousand words, or something like that.
Bad output shaft bearing, and a wonky driveshaft at 25k.

Who did the work?
Hi Gaspipe,
I was mounting a new rear tire yesterday on my Bumblebee, and noticed a clunking from the drive shaft while rotating the wheel. Looks like driveshaft and gearbox inspection time. Did you replace the driveshaft with OEM, or get it rebuilt? Who did you use, and how was the experiance? Thanks

I bought an OEM driveshaft. At least that'll do another ~25k or so. Now that I have a good core, I'll try a reman if I live long enough to make another 25k.
Figure it as a consumable - like tires, and be euphoric if it doesn't fail. The driveshaft is more of a binding sensation while rotating the rear wheel. Wierd noises and clunking typically are the transmission, and the output bearing in particular. A noise while rotating back and forth is probably just taking up the slack. I had my tranny redone by Omar Sayied in Phoenix. I was loking to improve the transmission feel and action. He did a fantastic job, and it's the nicest shifting airhead tranny I have ever had the pleasure to row the gears on. Omar is moving his shop now and I don't know how he is on taking work right now. He's top shelf. HTH, 'Pipe Quote:

If I broke it down that far, I'd probably lose interest and stow it, forget it, and dig it out a decade later and wonder what the hell it was, or if it was even mine.
Looks nice when you have it together. Quote:
