As long as my plants contract talk's go smooth. I'll be heading out beginning of July

Mobius .GPX files

I've posted the tracks and routes for the Non-TAT portions of the Mobius trip, but included ALL the waypoints including hotels, gas, bike shops, campgrounds, etc. which you may find helpful for your TAT planning.

You can figure out what sections you want to check out from the index post here, and download the files from this thread here.

We rode M-1 back in May '08, so please confirm for yourselves that motels haven't gone out of business, and gas and tires are still available.

myself and two buddies will be hitting the eastern section from TN to OK in early April. Probably going to ride for about two weeks, try and camp as often as we're comfortable doing and eat on the cheap whenever possible. We will be on a KLR(me and its FAR from stock), XR and DR. all of us are 24 and "experienced" riders.

Out of curiosity, since I haven't found an answer anywhere else, what is the best time to do the TAT? June or July? Or is August or September better?

Maybe the end of May you might make it thru the mountains here but more likely not. Sometimes they are open in early June.

April is ok it might be cold and wet, Six of us did it last year in april, watch out for high water levels on the creek crossings,

there is a KLR in there somewhere

I went in to help and we were washed down stream about 100' luckily there was a small tree sticking out of the water we were able to get a hold of to stop us from going any farther down stream.
bring your warm riding gear and your rain gear!
and have fun

what was the thought process there?

Man those are crazy swollen creeks with fast flow, not sure I would attempt that in any vehicle. Were you short on fuel, and reroute would not work? What crossing is that? What inmate rode a klr into that?

No thought process just go help your buddy!!
Tell me about it, fast and cold
not short on fuel and did not want to be pussies there is a reroute for that section but like I said;
this is TN map 7 between 350.09 and 357.31 mile markers on the map,( Little Flat Creek, not so little) luckily there was a campground 3 miles from the crossing with laundry and a pavilion, they let us camp under and they even brought us a load of wood for the fire place!

that is my good friend wtiger here are some after shoots,

thats me waving

this is mark draining the exhaust

drained the tank and the headlight, took out the plug and pushed it up and down the road to eject the water from the cylinder and turn the bike upside down for additional draining, after that the bike started right up and continued the trip all the way to the miss. boarder and then back home to nashville.

jsut when we got it all back together it started to rain, so off to the nearest campground!

The crew

the memories of things less smart.

those pictures bring back some good memories, all is well that ends well...
Not the smartest thing i have ever done, lol.

Have fun on the tat, and enjoy TN. and watch out for those slick creeks.
Tompound and I came up on one a little too fast, and there was a 6" step under the water that caused some havoc. spun me and the klr around 180 degrees and the woman that lives in the house right there came out to talk with us. I had gotten my bike up, and one side was clean (the side she saw) the other side was covered in clay. she asked why i was pointed the wrong direction?

I hope to be out by Mid to late June, on a DRZ, possibly solo maybe not, started a thread already in ride reports. Right now it more of a prep report.

I plan to camp most of the way, rooms just cost too much.
