Yeah, I really enjoyed it. Next year I may even stoop to sleeping in the woolshed....but then again, maybe not.

Cool looking photo, but I bet it didn't feel that way when you were being sand blasted...

Nicely done.

Good thing the horizon is straight or I'd have to come up there and hurt you.

Finally got out for a ride on the weekend. Plenty of wind, but hey, the sun was shining. We haven't had much of that lately.

This was actually taken on a 4mp point and shoot. Wifey had the big camera. I thought I'd get shit for 'sharpening' it up a bit much, as it's starting to look animated.

'bout time you southern hicks came up this way for a ride isn't it.

Cnut hill

I figured it was about time to have another run at Cnut hill. This hill climb has been haunting me for a couple of years now. I'd been to the top once, but had a little push from a mate, so wanted to go back and do it unaided. Andy had been up a couple of times on his WR250, but I wanted to get the black beast up.

I took the scenic route to Martinborough. Pori road:

Got to the meeting spot in Martinborough. Most people had chickened out, so it was just me and GT.

On the way to Sutherlands Hut

The rivers weren't too deep, but some big rocks catch you out.

We zigzaged our way down the river to the hut. GT took some interesting lines

but all good, eh dude

We stopped for a feed at the hut, then it was time to hit the hill.

Getting up the first bit is a mission in itself. Long steep climb out of the river.

Time to attack Cnut itself.

GT had a shot first. Very brave man considering he's quite new to this stuff. If you look closely, you can see him near the bottom.

He got about half way up, which was an outstanding effort.

I had a run at it, and didn't really expect too much. My EO-9 was down to about a third tread and I was running road gearing. Anyway, I gave it heaps, sprayed GT with rocks on the way past, and held on for dear life. By about three quarters the way up, the suspension went to shit, my lines went to shit, and I was shouting holy shit. By some absolute fluke, I managed to hold on, with just the right amount of throttle to not bog down in the rocks. I was as happy as a dog with two dicks.

The view over the other side of Cnut

I would have liked to carry on out to the coast, but it's not really a track to do solo.

Time to head back down the hill

GT learning all about the 'Camera Curse'.

Awesome ride. Fantastic day. 11 hour round trip for one little hill (and a few bragging rights). This was just what I needed to blow out some cobwebs.

Cheers for coming along Graeme. The way you're going, you'll be up that hill in no time.
