Just got back from RUTS this very moment. We had to head back super early as we have prior engagement this evening....

BUT!

From what Mike tells me.... I was -

1st place Novice on the bomb.

1st place Novice on loop 1!

finished 3rd in class

for my first Novice race!

Yeah yeah, don't break your arm patting yourself on the back

You had real decent start, 1st novice at the bomb, at the end of the 1st loop you were 2nd novice and still leading your class. You need to get in better shape ( I love telling youngsters that )

Good job AJ!

Weird thing I hardly remember the start - too much adrenaline!

I very excited to see the results.... the bike worked flawlessly as usual. The 525 is really an incredible bike. That coupled with incredible suspension really make it what it is.

I need to sort out my front brake. I bled it but its still mushy...I dont really use brakes in the desert but on the street they are totally inadequate.

You would go faster if you did.

Im getting there.... slowly.... baby steps.

I think I do a pretty good job of racing smart and not over riding my bounds. I go a little fast every time.

plus im still learning the 525. its got lots of potential, Id like to use as much of it as I can!

Let me share a story about going fast in the dez:

Back in the 70's I was a fairly fast Open Novice and had accumulated several overall novice wins. I had the chance to go play riding with my sister's boyfriend at the time, Tommy Brooks. Tommy is a legend for his riding skills, with multiple overall wins on a 125cc DKW. Flying across the dez I was staying ahead of Tommy for a while when I came up on a drop into a sandwash. It was about a 3' drop into the wash about 15' across the wash and about another 3' up out of the wash. I stopped just before dropping in and waited for a few seconds for Tommy.

So, I asked, how do you handle something like this? Stand on the brakes just before you drop in and then release the brakes to allow the suspension to extend back to full travel, and then pre-jump the other side as you pop out?

Not me! says Tommy, that shit scares me..... I close my eyes!!!!!
