Neil,

I don't have an answer for you, but a question instead. Your query leads me to believe that you have gotten a new Yamaha and are putting together Springbok II correct?

Pumps are not in the tank Neil. At least in the Honda they were out if I remember correctly in the first edition.
Having the pump out, means it runs dry, but it also means you can swap easily. Some designs have a very small cylinder tank, with the pump lying in there. This small tank is gravity fed by the main ones. Again, this can be swapped easily. I think speedbrain uses an internal pump, but they only have a rear tank don't they?

You could always check out the Tuareg Rallye coverage thread:

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=956944

I apologise my reporting this year has been up to it's usual intensity due to crappy wifi - but fortunately others have taken up the mantle and shared plenty of info and photos of the usual high standard by Rallymaniacs and Alessio Corandini... plus a few from myself when possible.

In the meantime, check out this bad boy - yup, that is KTMmitch putting the LC4-50 through it's paces down here in Tunisia while the rally is going on...

How do they determine which tanks to drain first? Some guys like to drain the back ones first, sometimes the front, sometimes all tanks together. Don't know how they determine which tank drains first
All i could see is there're pumps in every tank

A (cheesy) ADVRider RACING forum Sketch:

(A potential inmate wanders in from cyberspace and stumbles onto the ADVrider RACING forum…)

Inmate: Too Old (played by John Cleese): Good Morning...

Moderator: Troy (played by Michael Palin): Good morning, Sir. Welcome to the ADVrider RACING forum! What can I do for you, Sir?

P: Well, I was ummm, sitting at my keyboard at home in the study just now, skimming through 'Tails of a Bivouac” by Theodore Johnstone, and I suddenly came over all Adventure-ish.

M: Adventure-ish, sir?

P: Wanderlust...

M: Eh?

P: Yeah mayte, I wanna go for a squirt on me dirt bike like… ya’ see…?!

M: Ohhhhh… Adventure Ridin’!

P: In a nutshell. And I thought to myself, 'a little internet research would do the trick' nicely, so, I curtailed my Deadly cyber activities, sallied forth, and infiltrated your forum of convenience to initiate the assimilation of some vital information!

M: Come again?

P: I want to start a thread.

M: Oh, I thought you were complaining about the Suzuki riders!

P: Oh, heaven forbid: I am one who delights in all manifestations of the Japanese persuasion!

M: Sorry?

P: Mayte… I like a good blast on some smokey Jap crap!

M: So he can go on riding then, can he?

P: Most certainly! Now then, a thread please, my good man.

M: (helpfully) Certainly, sir. What would you like to read?

P: Well, eh, how about a little thread on basic GPS units...?

M: I'm, a-fraid we're fresh out of GPS navigation, sir.

P: Oh, never mind, how are you on bib mousse tyres?

M: I'm afraid we never have that at the end of the week sir, we usually get some fresh input on Monday’s.

P: Tish tish. No matter, no matter, four paragraphs about synthetic Motor oils, if you please.

M: Ah! It's beeeen on the board sir, for two weeks… Was expecting something in this morning.

P: 'T'is not my lucky day, is it? Aaaah, off road riding navigational tips ?

M: Sorry, sir.

P: Air heads?

M: Normally, sir, yes… but today Stagehands BMW seems to have broken down…

P: Aha... Touratech?

M: Sorry.

P: Wings vs. Acrapovic?

M: No.

P: Anything on green Norwegian stolen rallye bikes, per chance.

M: No.

P: Handlebars?

M: No.

P: Bar risers perhaps?

M: No.

P: Chains?

M: No.

P: Sprockets?

M: No.

P: Side pod auxilliary fuel tanks…?

M: (pause) No.

P: Shock absorbers?

M: No.

P: Upside down cartridge forks?

M: No.

P: Tools, camelbacks, tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses, camp ovens, rations: dried foods, tinned beans, dehydrated apricots, or double sided environmentally friendly recyclable cumquat flavoured toilet paper…?

M: mmmm… No.

P: (sighs) A “DIY navigation tower and roadbook thread”, perhaps?

M: Ah! We have one of those, yes sir!

P: (suprised) You do? Excellent!

M: Yessir. It's..ah,.....it runs off at the mouth a bit...

P: Oh, I like when it runs off at the mouth….

M: Well... It runs off at the mouth very much, actually, sir.

P: No matter. Fetch hither the diahorrea verbal de la rallye technocrat sil vous plais! Mmmwah!

M: I...think it runs off at the mouth a bit more than you'll like, sir.

P: I don't care how f5%&-ing much it runs off at the mouth sunshine. Provide me with a link with all speed.

M: (looks into the database) Oooooooooohhh........! (pause)

P: What now?

M: The WiFi's down.

P: (pause)are they?

M: “It”, sir.
(pause)

P: Rallye reports?

M: Maybe… what would you like?

P: The Roof of Africa…?

M: No.

P: Des Sertoes?

M: No.

P: extreme KTM adventures in the Erzberg highlands?

M: ….No.

P: The “Rise & Fall of the Nipponese Rallye Empire" by H. Yamazuki?

M: Um… No, sir.

P: You...do “have” some rally raid related threads here… don't you?

M: (brightly) Of course, sir. It's a motorcycle racing forum, sir. We've got…

P: No, no, no... don't tell me. I'm keen to guess.

M: Fair enough.

P: Uuuummm… Speedbrain.

M: Yes?

P: Ah, well, I'll read some of that then!

M: Oh!? I thought you were talking to me, sir? Steve Peedbrain, that's my name.
(pause)

P: Stupid… Aussie… Bastards…?

M: Uh, not as such sir… no.

P: Uummm, Botturi?

M: no

P: Goncalves?

M: no

P: Petronelli?

M: no

P: How about Mongolian rally veterans ?

M: no

P: Danish orienteering masters?

M: no

P: Czech 24 hour observed trials winners’s?

M: no

P: Past Venezuelan Hillclimb champions perhaps?

M: Not -today-, sir, no.
(pause)

P: Aah…! I know… how about the IOM...?!??

M: Well, we don't get much call for it ‘round ‘ere, sir.

P: Not much CALL for it…???!!! It's become the single most famous and revered motorcycling tourist trophy event in the world for going on nigh the last five or six bleedin' decades?!

M: Not 'round here, sir.

P: (slight pause) and what IS the most popular motorcycle related topic 'round ‘ere then?

M: “DAKAR”, sir.

P: IS it?

M: Oh, yes sir, it's staggeringly popular in this forum squire.

P: Is it?

M: Our number one best thread subject, sir!

P: I see. Uuh...'DAKAR, eh?

M: Right, sir.

P: All right. Okay. 'Have you got a thread... on DAKAR..?' He asked, expecting the answer 'no'.

M: I'll just have a look, sir… mmmmmm, nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnno.

P: It's not much of a motorcycle RACING forum, is it?

M: Finest in the country sir!

P: (annoyed) Explain the logic underlying that conclusion, please.

M: Well, it's so informative, sir!

P: It's certainly uncontaminated by useful information....

M: (brightly) You haven't asked me about the 2014 Tuareg Rallye, sir.

P: Would it be worth it?

M: Could be....

P: Have you… SHUT THAT BLOODY SUZUKI OFF!

M: Told you sir...

P: (slowly) Have you got any 2014 TUAREG RALLYE information?

M: No, JMO's undergone trans-gender re-assignment surgery it seems... Dr Mitch attending surgeon.

P: Figures. Predictable, really I suppose. It was an act of purest optimism to have posed the question in the first place... Tell me:

M: Yessir?

P: (deliberately) Have you in fact got any motorcycle RACING related threads here at all.

M: Yes,sir.

P: Really?
(pause)

M: No. Not really, sir.

P: You haven't?

M: No sir. Not a byte. I’ve been deliberately wasting your time, sir.

P: Well I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to cut your mod's off!!.

M: Right-0, sir…

(The inmate unplugs his modem and terminates the transmission)

P: What a senseless waste of time...
