Doug- You can use any 1980-1995 /7 through mono lever drive shaft and if you don't care about it being spring dampened(which breaks) you can use late 73-79 as well.

Thanks for the tip.

I'm just getting over bronchitis and hope to be trusted with tools and other sharp implements in a day or so
So i am doing my research on line.

My motorcycle developed a slight knock in the drive line before i left for Daytona, by the time i got there it was more noticeable. Rode it home ok and checked it frequently for any heat build up or fluid loss, nothing obvious.
Now when i put the bike on the center stand in neutral and rotate the wheel forward or back the noise is not there

I had several BMW riders with a lot more knowledge than me listen to it while down there. The consensus was a bad U joint.

Doug,
Please check the four bolts attaching the driveshaft to the transmission output flange. Make sure they are tight. Loose bolts would make the sound you describe...

If they are loose you should replace them ASAP. Use the short bolts, no washers. They are supposed to be changed anytime they are removed. I don't think everybody does that though, I do.

Looking for 2 ATE 40mm calipers in decent shape. Silver or black.

Have 3 38mm ATE calipers, 1 black 2 silver, if you want to trade 3 for 2.

Also interested in out right purchase.

Puled the boot back and checked the bolts = all tight.

We could find no slop in the U Joint, and for some odd reason cannot replicate the knocking noise now ??

We tried it in all 5 gears static on the center stand, started the engine and ran it through the gears, tried holding the rear brake on tight and loading the drive train , all we heard was some minor clutch chatter ??

Stumped at this point , so we decided to tear the whole drive line apart this next week. Something is not right for sure .

Will report back what we find .

Maybe some people will have to pull this apart because it once made a noise. Not me. If the noise went away I'm moving on. You could find nothing. You looked at the four bolts. It fixed itself.

Of course if the noise comes back then start looking again.

Wanted

Airhead TRIP ODO, not the regular one, but the resetable one.

Mine does not sync up its numbers, so I have to manually roll the numbers back one mile at a time. Sucks!!

Anyone have an extra laying around for cheap?
