FS: 71 /5 - my dog needs surgery
1971 BMW R60/5 - Barn find - three owner bike (including me), purchased last April in Tennessee (current TN title, yes, its true I haven't registered it yet, is from the early eighties, second owner).
Almost all mechanical work has been done by Glen Bishop of Thoroughbred Cycles. Unless otherwise noted, all parts are BMW factory sourced through either Glen or BMW Milwaukee. All paint on the tank, fenders, frame, etc is original and reflects the 40 years of life that it has on it. Its not perfect but, its gorgeous in its own way. If you had a mind to complete a full restoration on this bike, it would be a simple matter to get the remaining parts cleaned / painted, etc. All electrics inside the headlight shell have been thoroughly reviewed. Everything is in top working order, inclusive of indicator lights on the speedo face. Here's a list of all the things that have been replaced or refurbished or fixed (that I can remember at least): New Tires (and tubes), less than 500 miles on them - Pirelli Diablo New Brake line - front & rear New hand grips (originals retained) New throttle tube New throttle linkage New throttle cable (short) Low bars (aftermarket - originals retained) Bar end mirrors (aftermarket) New (take off from a correct model year bike) front cover / alternator cover New steering head bearings New "sport" fork springs (originals retained) New fork internals (and oil) New fork boots (correct rib count) New rear shocks (Progressive, not period / model correct) New alternator / battery cables (high capacity, aftermarket) New spark plug wires New spark plugs New tank bumpers New wiring loom separator block New main wiring harness (front & back) Fuel filters installed, between gas tank and carbs Carbs rebuilt New air cleaner and airbox cleaned New, higher capacity oil pan installed (all oil systems - pickup, sending tube, etc - were cleaned and inspected during this process and new gasket was installed) Missing parts of batter box / retainer replaced. Refurbished final drive / rear wheel / braking system installed Crank case vent hose installed (ugly) New (corrected) exhaust system installed from headers back New exhaust nut (replacement for broken fin) New seat 'hinges' and bumpers installed New key with correct plastic head Essentially, every rubber or plastic part on this bike that showed even the possibility of failing, has been replaced. The engine was completely torn down and rebuilt over the winter, as well. Any miles on it are purely "break in" miles put on the bike by the mechanic that handled the rebuild.... ![]() ![]() ![]() As of today, I've got north of $7000 into this bike. Its yours for $4500 or best offer....like I said, my dog needs an expensive surgery and therefore, my toy / project needs to find a new home, asap.

It would be cheaper in the end to buy a reproduction seat for both of you and a lot less work.

MotoBins has a stock appearing repro in both 'budget' and 'deluxe.' Budget has a plastic base and I'm happy with mine so far. Deluxe is spozed to be resto quality, German made, etc.

WTB parts
I'm looking to buy a couple of things:
For 1977 XS650 : Complete Exhaust in good or great shape (stock or Mac or Kerker), fork tubes without pits and straight, gauges, shocks (progressive, or whatnot) For 1975 CB550: Complete exhaust (4-4, 4-2, 4-1 does not matter, but must be good), rear shocks Thanks, PM me if you have any of those. I'd rather pay an inmate than spending it on ebay.
