I don't think there are any trade restrictions or duties, but American Honda has said that they have to pay for Euro-built bikes in Euros which makes the bikes more expensive since the Euro is strong against the dollar.

This sounds like a reasonable excuse until you see Honda taking flyers on bikes like the DN01 and Deauville. If Honda can import these two, then they can take a flyer on a higher-than-optimally priced Transalp. And its not like Honda's (or any of the other big four Japanese mfg's) strategies on what to import, high price or not, are working worth a damn - US sales are terrible and they're losing market share.

I give credit where credit is due to Suzuki and Kawasaki - while they're dual-sport lineups are not extensive and are a bit frumpy, at least they are building something. The Wee remains one of the most versatile motorcycles on the planet, is well-built and reliable, it has an ABS option at a reasonable price, and is a tremendous bargain. It just needs a derivative platform that is a little better off-road.

This bike still runns like hell with the origin 750cc engine, I presume now almost 150.000 km on its clock.

Yamaha pressrelese Tokyo motor show oct 21.

Tokyo motor show, Yamaha pressrelese.

http://www.yamaha-motor.co.jp/global...09/30/tms.html

"The Yamaha Motor booth will be located in West Hall area W-06 and the press briefing will be held on October 21 (Wed.) from 13:50 to 14:05."

Then we might know if the Super T is for real.

this says displayed model list, mean it will be displayed (albiet an artistic version, so yes a 2011 or maybe 2010.5)!
there is a drawing of the booth layout with a spot for this bike.
it's parked next to the all new yz450f.
it will be interesting to see if the concept (similar abstract to what honda did for the new vfr) is like this drawing or something more refined like the real bike.

I've posted this on xtz750.com

so will they unveil the real thing when the show opens? or is it just a concept sketch? This makes it sound like an actual bike, it doesn't say concept was unveiled.

"The Lord of YAMAHA Adventures was unveiled at the latest Tokyo Motor Show and introduces new levels of Art of Engineering..."

I think the show opens to joe public on the 24th, guess we'll have to wait and see.

Just found this on visordown.com
"In Yamaha land there was a big fuss about a load of chrome and cloth – the new Super Tenere concept. It was a nice idea and it was kinda trick but at the same time totally pointless. Much more interesting was the reverse cylinder YZ450F (carb at the front, pipe at the back)..."

your quote says "was unveiled" as in it happened?
if that's the case where are the pics?
pics usually appear within minutes on blogs of unveilings.

looks like it's a 3d concept model. this is from their press release about their stand

"and an artistic objet named “The Lord of YAMAHA Adventure’s” inspired by the dreams and romance of adventure on the open road. "

Shaft drive. Serious about the BM market then..

You can register for updates on the Yamaha Europe site. I get the feeling it might be a late 2010 model....

Not sure what we can read into that concept, but looks like tubeless spoked wheels and plenty of suspension travel, which may bode well for it's off-road potential....?
