Question Tundra Brake Problems: Whats the fix guys?

I am certain we have some Tundra experts loitering around ADV somewheres...
I was thinking of picking up a 1st gen Tundra until I read post after post [from tundra owners/fans!] of brake problems that seem to dog the line year after year, from the git go to ???? Once I read, the symptoms and mystery seemed to echo what I had run into previously when shopping Tacoma's in the same era ... say 99-04, as well as 4Runners. I was lucky in that I bought a 2000 4-runner which in that year offered an option of an upgraded "heavy duty" brake setup and I never had issues with that one. others did have issues.

So the main thing is: is there a "surefire fix" for the issues?

Find a tundra with the heavy duty brake option.

Find the brakes mother, and give her a good throttling.

Did I miss where you actually tell us what this mysterious problem is.

Or should we guess.

I recommend new brake fluid. And you'll want to have a look at the 7th Pfitzer valve.

Have some Quaker State anti freeze on hand though before you begin, just in case.

Serious on.

I have a '03 Tundra I've put 90k miles on in 2 years. No brake problems at all. Just make sure any trucks over 100k have had the water pump done and you should be good to go.

Oh, and if you get the suicide door model, go ahead and buy some extra hinges for the rear windows......

Serious off.

That sucked.

From the link, it's built in Upper Mexico. Your point?

No mysterious or vague problems you want us to talk about?

Describe the noises it makes with text.

I had a 98 4Runner and rolled it with 180K miles never once had an issue with the brakes. I only replaced the front roters one and all four brake pads once no issues.

I now have 08 4Runner and with 75K at about 50K I replaced the front rotors with slotted ones and ebc brake pads on all four corners. No issues with that one either and that vehicle see some medium towing.

The braking issues I have seen are due to aging brake fluid and the internal breakdown of the flex lines.

If you upgrade to a quality flex line, replace the fluid. That will go a long way in improving pedal feel and braking response.

There are tons of aftermarket calipers, rotors and pads out there that can also help depending on how you use the vehicle.

It's kinda like "eeeeeeee ooooo eeeeeeee ooooo eeeeeeee ooooo"

The strange thing is it only does it when I have a chick in the truck with me.

It hasn't done it in a long time.
