I have been told that some crack without being dropped. I guess that is what the warranty is for.

I just picked this up for my 13 year old son. It's a 2004 Epiphone Sobe Les Paul "Van Halen". From what I gather there were 500 made.

Not really my cup of tea but my teen loves it. ...added to the family:

Floor: 1997 Fender "Bonnie Raitt" Stratocaster - USA (15 year old daughter's)
Front:
1987 Alvarez Yairi DY80 12 string - Japan (Mine)
2007 Washburn EA20 - China (15 year old daughter's)
1972 Orlando P Bass - Japan (Mine)
1979 Jarock Neck-Thru - Japan (Mine)
Middle:
2010 Epiphone Les Paul "Goth" bass - China (13 year old son's)
Back:
2006 Squire "Hello Kitty" - Indonesia (5 year old son's)
2004 Epiphone Sobe Les Paul - China (13 year old son's)
1980's Dixon Excel - ? (7 year old son's)

True, Gibsons headstocks tend to be very fragile. Which is awesome for cheapskate players like me that can get a brocken headstock ES-335 flame top Dot for U$800. Glued it after watching a ton of repair videos on Youtube, another U$100 for the local Luthier to shoot laquer and polish and I had a sweet, pre-disastered guitar I'm not afraid to actually play.

The thin waist at the nut, along with the 17 degree pitch of the Gibson headstock are two of the reasons the headstock pops off when looked at.

Norlin era guitars didn't have the problem, as much, the neck volute as well as three piece necks, made of maple, seemed to do the trick to avoid the issue.

I live pretty close to him and he just plays for fun now. He has had other interests for a while now! http://www.ktrperformance.com/

(probably the cheapest way for him to keep his vintage Ferraris running )

Alll the Fenders I'm familiar with have bolt-on necks

Cracked the headstock? Get another neck.

Relic....I just don't get it.

But I will tell you that the folks that do it and like it are pretty fun to poke now and again.

I think I've caught a bad case of GAS.

The guitar I don't quite own yet; '93 Gibson J-100 "jumbo". Wasn't really looking for a "Jumbo", until I played it.

Nice. The ones we didn't know we wanted until we played 'em are always the best.

My friend brought this Cordoba over for me to sell. It's the nicest nylon string I've ever played. But I can't have it.
