That's right. After awhile you stop making lines and start making shapes, then hopefully pictures will come.

Cool2 hey

I just stumbled across this thread. I may be able to give a little insight to people just starting out, I've been playing guitar and bass for 30 years (I'm primarily a bass player but started on guitar and kept playing that while focusing on bass) I'm also somewhat of a guitar tech. I've done set-up on electrics as well as acoustics, have taught lessons and done repairs.

fire me a PM if you have and questions

just remember have fun playing that the main thing !!!!

play ride repeat it's all good

I have never played guitar before but after taking piano lessons for the last 3 years I found I wanted another instrument to work on. Guitars have fascinated me for quite awhile and since I had some longer than expected hours at work I stopped by the local shop to take a look around.

Having read this thread more than once (love looking at all the guitars you guys have) I knew a little bit of what to expect. Told the guys in the shop honestly that I had never picked up a guitar much less played one but was hoping they could help me out. Listened to many guitars in and around my price range and strummed them to get a feel for how they sounded and felt while holding them. Tried quite a few brands (Epiphone, Taylor, Martin, Breedlove, Ibenez etc), I should mention I was looking for an acoustic guitar not electric, and one really stood out from the others in both tone and feel. Went back and forth between it and the others, having the shop play each one while I listened (piano helped here as I could get a sense of what tone I liked in them and guitars). In the end I bought a guitar that I could be happy with. So here is the winner of my totally inexperienced search thread.

A used 2010 Martin D-16R, Solid spruce top with solid rosewood back and sides in a gloss finish all around (except for the neck)

The back seems to match very well

From the custom shop which I guess is good? No idea what custom work was done on it. The shop guys said this model was made for the Guitar Center/Musician Friends stores so maybe that is the "custom" part.

One thing I need to work out is putting Schaller strap locks on it. The front lock was a snap to install, just screw out the old button and put the new one in as seen below

But I'm not sure what is going on with this one at the rear of the guitar, looks like it may be glued in instead of screwed. Didn't want to mess with it too much, tried to see if it would unscrew using my fingers but no go on that so I guess I'll take it back to the shop and get them to look at it.

Guitar is in great shape but there are scratches in the finish above the pick guard, looks like the PO strummed higher up on the fret board in addition to over the sound hole.

Fingers sore but mind happy.

+1.

I cleaned a room today, and opened some cases that have been closed for a long time. I'll post some pictures later, but they won't be as pretty as that Martin.

I was in Gunnison yesterday, and stopped in Castle Creek Guitars. The early 70's Alvarez I really liked was still there, so I took it as a sign...
