Traveling in Mexico..

I saw that. My reference was to it being done without anything being mentioned. It was only explained after posts and PMs concerning the issue.

I can't remember, but maybe a thread title change was mentioned back then.

Regardless, I have a very good idea who said complainer was back then. Who knows what the current push is about. Baldy does. Maybe Chris will post here.

Still it's kind of odd to me that the mere title of a thread needed to be changed.

After all, "Is Mexico Safe?" is just a question. Opinions on this can differ.

In post #2 to this thread I opine on "Is Mexico really safe?" I have my opinion, others can have theirs.

To the degree that Mexico riding enthusiasts regularly post here and share a love for riding Mexico, well, if that implies I or anyone else is guaranteeing anything, please re-read the above reference.

There are far more controversial issues, fights, threats, porn, attacks etc, going in elsewhere on ADV. Our thread title, I would have thought, was a big so what.

This thread is really a tiny portion of the pie. A small table in a very big room.

But it must have some appeal in Trip Planning, with 2,000 replies and a million and a half hits.

I remember the issue and baldy stopping by to comment on it.

Come on Baldy and quit subverting our efforts here.
Actually, as the site owner, he provides the sandbox, the sand, and the shovels.

Chris doesn't owe an explanation. Like I mentioned above, he's kind of already explained the reason. It might still apply, it might have changed, who knows. I personally think there's a twist still not known, or maybe a mod suggested it to him and he agreed, maybe he really didn't get involved, who knows.

People hate change. I don't see how merely changing a thread title affects anything in reality, especially legally. I don't see how people opining an opinion on the internet affects anything legally. To me, it's a freedom of speech platform. If you do so within a site's posted rules, I don't see the problem. But I'm not a lawyer. Maybe our resident attorney, Jimmex, has a thought.

The site owner card trumps what you or I have in the hand. So smile, say thank you, and move on.

Remain vigilant to the fact that the overwhelming numbers of posters to this thread who actually ride Mexico are hugely enthusiastic about it, while the naysayers, the minority, virtually to a rider, have rarely or more commonly never, ridden there.

Interesting!

Does this now mean we cannot discuss safety (perceived or otherwise) anywhere on this forum ? Is safety a banned topic ? I need to know. I'm leaving for Mexico Wednesday and I need to know if I will be safe. Where can I go to find out ?
Maybe the U.S. Department of State can help me out. Does anyone have John Kerry's phone number ?

I did note the mod that made the change isn't currently listed as a Trip Planning moderator.

Fun wasn't it ? Someone has to state the obvious. Otherwise it goes unnoticed.

Just my opinion, and an observation, but the new title implies Traveling In Mexico, without the question, is not an issue about which to be concerned. Those of us who have traveled (and do travel) there know better.

I think the original title covered the issue pretty well and I'm personally sorry to see it changed without discussion.

More popcorn on my end.

I believe safety should be and is a factor any where in the world. It's been discussed here a bunch. Be wary of your surroundings is just good, common sense. Of course, if it was really common there would be more of it.

Mexico used to be safe, but then they changed the title of the thread.

I don't see the PM's unless someone sends them to me. When I saw the post, I replied as a courtesy.

Maybe I should have posted something last night. Unfortunately, I had some other things to do. For that, I'm sorry.

You can discuss safety. No ban on that.

You can find State Department recommendations here.

Carry on regardless

When you ride with AndyC, there is an interesting thing he does.
He doesn't hang his helmet on the mirror.
He places it somewhere...interesting.
Like a cornfield or a fence post.

Some guys also have little traveling companions, a mascot. For example, Graham Field has "Monklet" who has been all over the world. AndyC is no slouch, he's got the "Guzzi Pirate".

Fun stuff.
Unless it starts talking to you like one of those ventriliquist dolls from a B movie!
I still get the heebie jeebies when I think of that movie that had a voodoo tribal doll that came to life and chased some chick around her apartment with a big knife back in the '70s.

You said Baldy asked for the change

What is the reason for the change - anything different from the speculation a few posts back?

Mike mike mike mike!!!!!! It was called " trilogy of terror" with Karen black. I watched it back in the 70s and it scared me shiteless. Then I watched it with my kids about five years ago and they thought it was cheerily hilarious.

I think you are the only other person I have heard reference that movie.
