I'm getting her a big bottle of tequila, a case of Corona, and sunscreen. I told her not to drive at night, not to get drunk in public, and not to trust anyone they meet in a tourist area. I'll get her a simple medevac policy. She's already bilingual. What am I missing?

You guys are funny.

Not you though, Vinnie.

They'll have Mexico car insurance, every parents' phone and email, phone contact for the US Embassy. I also gave her a lecture on left blinker use, what to do if there are branches on the road, and how to bribe cops. I explained the difference between federales and traffic cops...

I'm not tellin where they'll be. Vinnie'd twist the throttle on his katoom and be there in 5 days.

Sounds like a fun adventure to me. At that age I would have backed packet it.

Just in case...... they can fly to Cancun and drive to Playa del Carmen in a rental and you will rest way easy.

Until she calls you to let you know that she has decided that she is not coming back and she's moving here and all that........

Someone to call you "abuelito"?
On a more serious side, give them the lecture on how to keep their documents safe, and in addition to the left turn blinker make sure they respect the 3 lane highway rule and tip the Pemex attendants.

Good idea.

I'm also going to have them watch Ben's "Motorcycle Mexico" DVD.

Mazatlan violence

I'm reading alot of bad stuff about Mazatlan, violence happening within tourist areas, a few shoot em ups, fake roadblocks on the road to Tepic. Also some vague warnings about Guanajuato, SL Potosi, and SM Allende.

I'm planning a trip now where we cross on about March 10th and spend about two weeks in all these areas. My Dad was going to fly to Mazatlan and meet us, staying in a well-established resort but right near where some of this has gone down. He's normally pretty worried about security, but is now thinking of calling off his going down and is totally freaked by the thought of me ridding down.

Anyone been through that way in the past week? What's going on? Any roads to be avoided - I'm legitimately worried, but I don't want to cancel my trip for that vague "mexico is dangerous" perception.
