If reading up on the TVIP leaves you with questions feel free to PM me. It's much simpler than the online forms read.

Saw your map with routing. Wow!
If Al Quaeda is right about the 72 virgins waiting for them, maybe the actual PearlyGates is a strip club......(is this blasphemy?)

Schizzman, I've wondered what happened, from your references to something happening. EESSHH! A solo riders nightmare.

And all you did was scuff your beaded seat...... At least your smiling.

Pharr closes at Midnight, bypasses most of the Reynosa traffic (good or bad depending on one's perspective because we I travel to Mexico I like to mingle with people), and if you want to have a Zeta encounter around here that's the "best" crossing because it's the local truck crossing and they have been charging a "toll" to the truckers.

(Also, where the road from the Pharr crossing crosses with Rt. 2 was a choke point that the Zetas were trying to hold, but that was months ago.)

That's why I wouldn't exactly say it's the #1 crossing around here.

With all of that said I wouldn't hesitate to cross at any time, but then again I would check the Reynosa town guv'mint's Twitter feed ( @DIRDEGOBREYNOSA ) just before I crossed.

I might add that @DIRDEGOBREYNOSA regularly gives you the crossing times from Mexico to the USA so if one crossing is backed up it may be wise to use another. In that regard Pharr may have an advantage because it doesn't seem to back up as much as some of the other crossings.

God told me that the world isn't going to end today because Jesus has a lot of money riding on one particular horse in the Preakness.

Alas, they swore me to secrecy as to which horse that is, or I'd tell y'all.

Frankly, I'm going to Progreso in about 30 minutes. If the world does end I want to have a bucket of Indios in front of me.

Bridge recommendations made by me are irrespective of where reports of cartel activity describe hot spots.

Where trouble may pop up, if it ever does, is a roll of the dice.

As far as crossings go, there are too many factors involved as to where actual cartel activity may actually appear, which makes trying to pick a crossing based upon news reports of threats akin to playing this game:

I tend to agree, and as I said when I concluded my comments I wouldn't hesitate to cross at any local crossing right now, except for maybe the ones up around Roma and Miguel Aleman (and even there I have been considering a quick trip just to look around).

I might add that I get some of my info from some local truckers and transport brokers. They had been paying something like $400 a load to get through the Pharr crossing, according to one guy that I know.

As I said, that and Progreso are the local truck crossings, and I think that Progreso may be just agricultural products. Pharr handles all the traffic going to and from the maquilas.

For the time being, anything and everything related to Miguel Alemán & Cd. Mier & that stretch makes little sense for downrange travelers. Local thrill seekers can have at it.

The reader of this thread may stack his/her chips where they like. I'll continue to stack mine on any of the major commercial routes each and every time, no matter what the news says.

Let me add that I like Mexican truck drivers and their culture. They're fun to talk to and will give you the shirt off their back. Where this has to do with the theme at hand is this: you can almost universally count on any truck driver to bend over backwards to help you. And that's anywhere in Mexico.

That kind of thing happens when you lower your ride.

I have your original fork springs in my garage with your other take-offs.

FWIW and to keep the topic on Mexico and motorcycling, I can testify that a K1200LT will high center on the topes at the border crossing. Both wheels off the ground (by a fraction of an inch) and that's an embarrassing feeling.
