This last week my dad purchased a bike and had to have it imported to mexico by a customs broker in laredo. Part of the process was actually going through the bridge and importing it where the trucks cross. Then he had to take it to the garita at the 26km mark to have it finalized before returning to the US. Being that my bike wasnt being imported i had to go to the Colombia crossing and then ride down to the highway the trucks used from the highway to bypass the laredo traffic. I had to wait for an hour or so for my dad to clear customs so i pulled off and got some tacos. I was Talking to the young man making the tacos and he was telling that things in nuevo laredo were pretty bad but wouldnt give details. I know its bad and i didnt really want to go through nuevo laredo but we had to go back to the brokers office and meet with him again. Things there seemed normal nothing really happening.

Last year i worked in mexico, in fresnillo zacatecas. One weekend i was coming back to the US and we were stopped by unmarked black SUVs by guys that werent wearing uniforms and all carrying assault rifles and sidearms. At the time i didnt think anything of it. Now though im pretty sure those guys werent law enforcement. They didnt hassle us in any way just wanted to know where we were going and where we were coming from. Actually were very friendly. More friendly than the officials....

I am probably available during that time period.

As the late Warren Zevon would have said, bring your passports and your tequila money. Leave the lawyers, and guns at home.

Bingo! We have a winner!

As much as I love riding, I usually start looking for a room around 3:30PM or so. I want to shower, and then go into town and have dinner and hang out with the locals.

Riding got me there, but in the final analysis I am a traveler and want to talk to folks.

I was going to run up to Houston and see Southern Culture on the Skids during the Good Friday holiday but if anyone wants to ride down to La Pesca or Tampico during the weekend (April 2 thru 4) then just drop me a line.

Beer.

Loose wimmen.

OK ... maybe not but there's always hope

Anyway, good riding and some sun and sea.

And Mexico!
