i've found the best beer in Mexico is from Uruguay or home/small-batch brewed.

ALL the Mexican brewers take shortcuts in their ingredients used.
...find some Negra Modelo on tap, tastes great.

+1 for El Indio

A note on the FMM tourist visa: had a current one from last July since I didn't go through Migracion on my exit. Presented it to Migracion yesterday leaving Acuna and was told to keep it for the Oaxaca trip. Guess I'll just get one every 5-6 months from now on. Planning the same for my next TVIP.

no man.
thing is when you've lived in the colorado mtns for as long as i did you have soooo many top-shelf ingredient beers plus local brew-pubs, mexican beer is harder to swallow. i've have had so many deep and complex beers i know the difference, that's all. i wouldn't call it snob, just calling it like i see it.
i didn't say there no good beer in mexico, there is just not alot of innovation as Modelo has an iron fist hold on distribution. it's not 100% but imagine if every place just carrried budwieser or some close variation of that. negra modelo on draft is the bomb and there is some great stout on draft in san miguel.

I have run into them literally! I was in a taxi. A 3-car accident in Villahermosa, Tabasco. One car had two Mennonite couples in it. Both women pregnant. The third car had a pregnant Mexican woman in it with her teenage son. Three women, all pregnant. The taxi driver caught hell from the police. Fortunately nobody really hurt.

Youse characters have no idea how jealous I am and how I wish that I could hop on a bike and run a bit up the border and meet y'all at C. Acuna.

Or, for that matter, take Arte up on his very nice riding invitation.

Never mind taking you up Schizz on your very, very kind and generous offer that we discussed in PM. You are a gentleman. I apologize for mentioning that here in public.

I have been making notes like mad, and hope and expect to leave my "imprisonment" in anywhere from a few more weeks to a few more months (gotta stick with this as long as there is $$$ coming in). When that happens I have several rides in this area that I want to do:

* Rt. 57 to Saltillo

* there is a trail along the US border from El Indio to Laredo that I have heard various things (mostly "don't do it!) about and I am dying to explore

*hang out in Monterrey and Reynosa and visit old friends

Anyway ... carry on guys. And thanks for keeping me in mind.
