Glad WhiskeySmith got evacuated and is now okay. Kudos to y'all for the teamwork and the well thought out insurance plan.

On the spot turning off accidentally - what worked for me was shoving a piece of a business card in between the battery door and the batteries. It passed the test on the road to Real de Catorce and hasn't turned itself off since, so I think it's fixed...

In Chihuahua, Chihuahua now, rode the Canyon from Guachochi through Creel plus the necessary Divisadero sidestep. WhiskeySmith has a broken clavicle, 3 broken ribs, busted wrist, 3 cracked spinal segments, and a concussion. He is in the hospital I mentioned above a few posts earlier. Thanks to all for sending positive thoughts his way.

I am taking MX16D to Ojinaga tomorrow, then Texas RR170 (River Road) to Terlingua. Any inmates wishing to hook up, my tab at the Starlight in Ghost Town Terlingua tomorrow night at 7 PM.

Tricepilot,
I won't be in Terlingua 'til Monday afternoon. Could you wait? I'd like to be on your tab.
On a different note, how, exactly did WhiskeySmiths accident happen ?

He is in good spirits, is in good hands, and has everthing going his way.

My personal thanks go out to ADV inmates SR and Schizzman for being on the other end of the cell phone tether from here in Guachochi and for being willing to do anything and everything possible to assist. SR was willing to drive to Parral from Durango if necessary to pick up both WhiskeySmith and his bike, and get them both back to the US. Fortunately, good insurance saved the day.

I am the last man standing south of the border of the October 2011 Wild Bunch Rides Mexico and I have to say, this has been one hell of an experience.
I rode that fine piece of highway solo this past March. It can bite. All the best to WhiskeySmith and a speedy recovery

Our Man Flint

Got up this morning in Terlingua and headed out for San Antonio. Arrived in town, first stop University Hospital to check out Carl, a.k.a. WhiskeySmith, resting comfortably in bed.

He'll be there for some more days of treatment then hopefully released.

The story of how he crashed, was transported back to Parral, treated in the Mexican hospital, transported to Chihuahua, and flown to San Antonio is a tale for the ages. We'll try to put this together in the coming week.
