This web site gives a May 3 date but the Fiesta de la Santa Cruz lasts a week so that must be the culmination of the festival when they march a parade to the Peña chapel.

Probably worth 2 days/2 nights.

Here's an old shot of the Peña:

Alright, who passed me going the opposite direction (north) on mex 180 somewhere between Soto La Marina and Aldama this morning?? Looked like maybe a gs and a tiger? Could easily be wrong. We waved. I was on a Dakar.

Currently in Xilitla and loving it. Just demolished 7 tacos and now I cant move.

120 is an amazing road into Xilitla. The view and the curves drew more than a few "holy shit"s from my mouth. Where to tomorrow?? I have no clue. Papantla? maybe here another day? Any suggestions? I already have a bunch of rides from Mike, just wondering if anyone else is in the area.

You are close to a very amazing road.
Take the road from 180 up to Tlapacoyan and then take the road to Teziutlan.
Trust me on this one, or ask Trice and Schizz.
You can cut over from Papantla if you really want to. PM me for details.
DO NOT MISS THIS CHANCE to do the Tlapacoyan to Teziutlan ride, if you don't like it I will pick up the bar tab.
Deal?

What if I do it, like it, and then tell you I didn't like it?? I'll definitely check it out, and then head your way to report on it.

Also, very important, where the hell can I find a new rear tire?? 130/70 or 130/80, 17 inches. From Houston to Brownsville i found NOTHING. And I was a little lazy in my search to be honest, but i guess i wrongfully assumed there'd be something in those cities. My metzeler sahara doesn't have much life left in it. I'll have a new set waiting for me in Panama, but i have a couple thousand miles to go before i get to them.

p.s. I've been on the bike 6 days, and it has rained all day everyday. I've done 2000 miles, and only 100 of them have been without rain

I'm going to re-quote this line in my ride report when I post up in there the edited-to-music video of Bob C. and Schizzman and Jimmex riding Mx 175 on the way to Puerto Escondido, taken with my front and rear mount GoPro HDs two weeks ago.

The Mexico Gossip Thread

So I have been following this thread for a while and I like that its now basically a who is where and what road to ride thread.

I am back on my bike and hanging in Los Barriles for the night and then to La Paz tomorrow. I sail for the mainland on Fri. I would sail tomorrow but I want to check some thngs out around here and Thursday is Senorita Noche at a few places in La Paz.

Sometimes beer and women slow me down! And sometimes they make me get moving faster!

Anyway had a lot of fun two week ago when I was in La Paz and want to check it out some more. Once I hit the mainland on the 10th I will head south with no real plan.

If anyone wants to catch up to ride let me know.

Smitty

Tragic News

It is with a heavy heart that I report the passing of Bato's wife Bernadette on Sunday, 5 February 2012, in a tragic accident.

I just got off the phone with him and he asked that I post this news here for his friends to know.

Bato is a frequent poster here and is a native of Mexico, now living in Kerrville, Texas..

Both he and Bernadette have been to my house many times.

There will be a memorial service at St. Luke's at 410 & Callahan in San Antonio tomorrow at 10 AM.

Schizzman and I will be there for him.

Life is short. Cherish every moment.

We all have this in common: no one can see what is coming.

We will all die our own death. What is in question is whether or not we will live our own life.

It's good to live life mindful of these things. But it is painful to be reminded.

My condolences to the Martinez family.

I haven't yet met any of you guys, but I've followed a lot of your entertaining banter including Bato. My condolences Mr Bato
