Policia

I got pulled over on the way to the airport doing 80 Kmh in an 80 Kmh speed zone. He took my license and told me I would have to go back to Playa to pay the ticket. I told him we were on our way to the airport and if I could just pay the fine to him. He said ok and to come back to his truck. He then told me the fine was 140 dollars US. I took out my wallet and showed him I just had 40 dollars US. ( I purposely carry very little in my wallet just for this reason ) He then dropped the price to 100 US. I told him that was all the money I had after spending it all in Mexico, and was planning on eating supper with it. He then dropped the price to 40 US, which I paid, he gave me back my license and sent me on my way. May take the time as Tricepilot said and acquire some "extra" licenses.

Also saw this bike in Playa del Carmen last week. Judging from the decals this bike has been everywhere.

Bandera is getting a reputation for having overly aggressive cops that target bikes. So beware.

One of the reasons Mexico is so much fun to ride; I was running 100mph on the cuota in relative safety and nobody cared.

That's right.
I've been living here close to two decades and have never been stopped for speeding nor seen anyone get a ticket for speeding. They do have a radar gun but the guys who knew how to operate it were fired during a cleansing purge and it seems like everyone forgot where it was put away for safe keeping.

On my recent trip, my buddy and I were outside of Creel, headed West, when we came up behind a police car (winding two-lane road)... After a couple of minutes they pulled over and waved us by, giving a big fist pump with huge smiles.

Those are my kind of cops!

That stretch or road by Xcaret is notorious for being pulled over for speeding. The funny part is that they no longer set up a speed trap, which you could see for a mile away due to all the red cones they place on the side of the road, they now simply drive behind you to check your speed.

Keeping your eyes in your rearview mirror is all it takes. Plus they drive around with the police lights on all the time, they are easy to spot. On the other hand they still stop rental cars sometimes and claim the tourist was speeding, not much you can do about it for the exception of your perfectly executed "fine on the spot" scenario.
