All in baja tho.

I've heard there's one or two microbreweries in the DF.
Very interesting. Anyone know of micro breweries on the mainland; other than DF ?

Sierra Madre Brewing Company is a small chain. They have a location or two in Monterrey and a location in Reynosa. Arte and Andre took me to the one in Reynosa; that one doesn't brew on the premises but has house beers that they must bring in from Monterrey.

There has been some discussion about this route on this thread in the past, but John is the first person I know to have actually done it. They are currently paving this road. He said that there is 300 km of nice curvy pavement from Parral to the CHI, DGO, SIN border. From there, it is about 65 Km of rough off road that took him 4 hours in a truck. From then on it is paved to the coast. There is gas and lodging at Los Frailes also at the border. He said he picked up a few hitch hikers to ask them about the area. They say the entire economy is growing gomma and mota but the people are tranquillo. This road would be a fun adventure on a DS bike.

When do we go? That would make an awesome ride to go down to Creel, farther down to Batopilas, up to Parral, and then this to the coast. Would be one hell of a ride.

I loved Pueblo Nuevo when the link was first posted awhile back, and particularly at 9 minutes in when she introduces their new-found mascota.

That's nice of you! I will remind Ruth to give you a front row seat at the screening of her first feature film. Probably at the Teatro Ricardo Castro in DGO.

Very cute Perrito!

Whenever I see this videos all I can think is that Ruth is one tough Mexicana. Riding doubles for hours on the back of that DR-200! Chingona!

If you are nearby maybe ;)

They have several varieties of house beer. And it's a very nice place. But frankly it reminds me of an upscale Appleby's (and that's not a slight - I regularly hit the Appleby's en Nuevo Laredo) whereas I am happier sitting somewhere else and drinking Indio.

But it's whatever turns your crank. I would take a wild guess and say that it's very Americanized and that appeals to upscale Mexican folks in that part of town. The shopping center next door has a Rolex dealer and I once almost got run over in the parking lot by a young lady in a Turbo Porsche Cayenne who was talking on her cell phone.

Let's put it this way. Their food is pretty good but once again it's upscale Mexican Appleby's (I think Appleby's en Mexico tend to be nicer than the ones in the States). And if you want to meet a genuine Zeta commander this is the place to go - there have been a couple of shoot outs here.

I would Iike to try one of their locations en Monterrey the next time that I get down that-a-way.

So it's hard to say. As much as I love Mexico I used to "depressurize" from 2-3 week trips by hitting the Appleby's en Nuevo Laredo and getting a US-type New Yawk strip steak en Mexico. The Sierra Madre en Reynosa is a fine place but I just don't see it as being the slice of Mexico that most people enjoy. Then again I am a gear head and enjoy the extremes and have hit things like the BMW and Land Rover dealers in Monterrey just to chat and get some understanding of both ends of the social spectrum.

As a brew pub by US standards it's mediocre to good and the Reynosa location doesn't brew on the premises. As a US restaurant it's quite nice. As a slice of life en Mexico it's decidedly modeled after US brew pubs and in that regard they did a pretty good job considering the location. As "authentically Mexican" (whatever that means)it is an anachronism.

I will say that it's on the main road to Monterrey so it's easy to find.

Thanks PJ. I think I'll pass.
Kind of reminds me of a trip in Mexico one time when a lot of the restaurants were playing American disco music. It just about made me nuts. As I told my wife; Mexico has a great musical culture, why play this crap ?
