Route to Dallas

If you do route through Saltillo to Piedras Negras be sure to take MX57 Libre north from Saltillo through Cañada Ancha. Nice river valley with a good road surface, twisties, adobe ruins, etc. Jimmex showed us this route last October.

Post back if you want route suggestions through the Texas Hill Country. The area west of Kerrville and south of Junction represents the best Hill Country riding, IMO.

Routes in Texas would be great! I will probably want to haul ass going north, mostly riding cuotas, but on my way back I could wander about a bit, maybe coming back down through P. Negas to Saltillo.

I remember liking Saltillo quite a bit last time I was there, but recently heard they've been taken over by Zetas. Anybody got anything to say about that?

Unless you're hauling a load of mota through there you should be fine.

For quick and quite crossing northbound try Colombia Bridge upstream from Nuevo Laredo. Feeds right back to IH35 and usually has very little non-commercial traffic. It's a full-service crossing.

I'm in Austin if you need anything or want to take a meal break.

I am a couple of hours away. I can scoot up there or give them a call. Thanks for the information.

That road is fine. I have been on it a half a dozen times in the last two years. As far as I know, all toll roads in Mexico are safe. They might cost you $100/day to be on but safety and speed are what you are paying for.

It would be nice to keep the bike with another inmate but long term parking is vey common in Mexico. Ask around and in half an hour you will find a place. I pay about 300 pesos per month to keep a trailer in a very safe lot "pension". You might pay a few more pesos to have it in a covered area. You could also try a self storage type warehouses "Usted Guarda". Around here they cost about 600 pesos/month, maybe more expensive in PV. You can get an online quote here.

Maybe we will see you again in DGO. BTW Smitty you are welcome to store it here with me, 100% safe and free. I will even fire it up once a month and ride it down to Mazatlan and back, you know, to prevent the seals from drying out.

Don't forget, when riding on a Mexican toll road, keep your receipt. It acts as an insurance policy in case of damage to your vehicle due to a problem on the road. Yes, it is legit, they do pay, (like the CFE will if they damage your electrical goods through a power spike) you have to be patient but it is one of the few things here that actually works.

And who knows when the half price is beginning for bikes, it should have been this month when the tolls come down for two wheeled transportation.

I was in Guanajuato over Semana Santa and there were already some tolls there that were half price for motos. Haven't seen any here in the State of Mexico or the DF yet.

Cuota tolls for MC's

Thanks for that little known fact, Mike.
And let us know when the half price for motorcycles kicks in.

I spent $50 USD on that Toll system riding into Veracruz that time I talked to you on the phone at the hotel desk phone.

We definitely need to get together next time I'm down there, or when you come north. :)

Haven't made any decisions yet on DGO or not. Probably going to just boogie down the coast. Flights will dictate Mazatlan or PV storage.

If I left that bike with you for 2 weeks I would need a new set of rubber!!! I think you'd find away to put about 5K on it in two weeks!!! Haha

Haven't seen my whip since March can't wait to be back in the saddle in 9 days!!!

Wrong spot to ask but just throwing it out...any suggestions on CA and SA paper maps? And SA GPS maps?

I will also post this in the right spot but thought you Mexico riders may know something!!! Other than Mexico is not dangerous!!!!!!
